  • All-Time Heavyweight Tournament

Two divisions in each part of the bracket, just like NCAA Tourny, single elimination. I went with the top 20 seeds by Cox's Corner seeding, I didn't like the ESPN rankings, and I didn't want to be bias in my seeding. The last 12, I seeded myself, so yeah.

Tell me who wins and play out the tournament, and if you want to, which match up you'd look forward to the most for each round, however it plays out for you. Each fighter is in their absolute prime, so not the Ali version that fought Frazier 3 times and Foreman, Ali from 1964-1967.

    Bracket 1:
    (1) Joe Louis vs. (16) John Ruiz
    (8) Sam Langford vs. (9) James J. Corbett

    (5) Mike Tyson vs. (12) Wladimir Klitschko
    (4) Jim Jeffries vs. (13) Ken Norton

    (6) Joe Frazier vs. (11) Vitali Klitschko
    (3) Larry Holmes vs. (14) Michael Moorer

    (7) Evander Holyfield vs. (10) Max Schmeling
    (2) George Foreman vs. (15) Chris Byrd

    Bracket 2:
    (1) Muhammad Ali vs. (16) David Haye
    (8) Gene Tunney vs. (9) Ezzard Charles

    (5) Lennox Lewis vs. (12) Billy Conn
    (4) Sonny Liston vs. (13) Max Baer

    (6) Rocky Marciano vs. (11) Floyd Patterson
    (3) Jack Dempsey vs. (14) Ernie Terrell

    (7) Rid**** Bowe vs. (10) Joe Walcott
    (2) Jack Johnson vs. (15) Ingemar Johansson

        [QUOTE=turbotime;11534846]Bracket 1

        (1) Joe Louis
        (5) Mike Tyson
        - Louis had no problem fighting with guys on the inside and rarely tried fighting from range, something he would need to do against the shorter Tyson. That also leads to his downfall, as Tyson finds a way inside and reaches Louis' less-than cement chin.

        Tyson by KO

        (3) Larry Holmes
        (7) Evander Holyfield
        - This would probably be the best fight in the tournament. Holyfield would look to rough Holmes up once he gets inside on the jab and work the body to slow Holmes down. Holmes may even see the canvas as he did in his heyday. If he does indeed make it up off the canvas, he takes the points win, as he so often did.

        Holmes in a tight decision.

        Bracket 2:

        (1) Muhammad Ali
        (5) Lennox Lewis
Too close to call for me. Battle of jabs. I see a chess match, with Ali's speed and agility in all likelihood carrying the day.

        Ali by decision

        (6) Rocky Marciano
        (7) Rid**** Bowe
Marciano never stopped coming, but the size and skill would be too much to overcome. Bowe cuts him to ribbons on the outside and nails him with short punches in between Marciano's wide shots on the inside.

        Bowe late TKO

          Bracket 1

          (5) Mike Tyson
          (3) Larry Holmes

Another great style match-up. We saw what Tyson did to Holmes later on in Holmes career. Tyson doesn't get the KO but the knockdown(s) he could score would likely be the difference in the fight, though Holmes dominates late.

          Tyson in a tight decision.

          Bracket 2:

          (1) Muhammad Ali
          (7) Rid**** Bowe

Both highly skilled, Ali a TAD more athletic, using his fleet feet to avoid too many exchanges, befuddles Bowe early, and the frustration carries into the later rounds, as Bowe begins to tire and Ali grows in confidence, which he already has in spades. Working the body and head effectively with jabs and in combination, eating Bowe's best punches like nothing.

          Ali UD

Ali vs Tyson in the finals!

No idea, really. Hold a gun to my head and I would say Ali.

If you say Tyson, someone might shoot you.

A lot has been put in to both of their pre-fight head games. Both have so often won fights before they even got into the ring. Ali has fought more fearsome fighters than Tyson. (sorry, Prime Foreman was more terriying than Tyson)

I think Ali would straight up work Tyson in the psychological department and over the course of the last half of the fight. If this fight is a 15 rounder, maybe Rooney throws in the towel after no path to victory can be found after 11 or 12 rounds. Maybe Tyson takes the last couple rounds thrashing.

Either way, Ali tastes Mike's power early, doesn't like it, smartens up and dazzles Tyson on the outside, flicking his jab and keeping it center ring, bleeding and swelling Tyson's eyes and mouth and taking a tense, clear decision.
