        Salvador Sanchez-Danny Lopez
Matthew Franklin-Marvin Johnson (although the first fight wasn't "high profile")
        Evander Holyfield-Alex Stewart
Rid**** Bowe-Andrew Golota (more like Golota lost rather than Bowe beat him).

Only the California title was at stake for Armstrong-Garcia. Not the NYSAC (precursor to the WBC) title.

It sucks that Armstrong didn't get the nod over Cerefino Garcia in their middleweight title bout, would have been his 4th title in all of the REAL weight classes, he had already beaten Garcia once at 147.
No it wouldn't, it wasn't a "real" title, it was just the ONE STATE version of the title, not recognised by the rest of the world. And Garcia was 152 with Armstrong somewhere around 140.

I've read a lot of accounts on it that it was legit. Garcia was champ at the time regardless.

Jack Johnson fought Sam McVey many times, also Joe Jeanette, Denver Ed Martin, Klondyke, Black Bill and several others. He fought Jeanette at least 10-12 times. Benny Leonard Ted Kid Lewis Jack Britton Harry Greb, Maxie Rosenbloom Battling Levinsky etc and many of the great old time boxers had multiple fights against the same opponent, and I mean MULTIPLE....not 2-3 but 5-6-7-8 or more. These great fighters had between 2-300 fights in their careers. That was what they did. No prima donnas amongst them. They were keeping their families. Kid Lewis and Jack Britton fought TWENTY times...........And Britton was an American and Lewis lived in England. They were FIGHTERS.

Well it was only a 10 rd fight, also the NYSAC was not universally recognised as the World title, It was really more for New York State, and maybe a few others recognised it. The NBA was more recognised at the time and they often had different "world" champions at the same time, with the best champion being the more recognised.

                  That's how I recall it anyway .

Was thinking about this one today.

Iran The Blade Barkley whipping Tommy Hearns ass twice.

First fight was awesome and a huge suprise and Barkley was underdog both times.
