HatmanTV made an interesting video on fighters avoiding one another.

One particularly good point was that some fans who defend ducking, are acting like a fighter's manager, rather than as a boxing fan.

Let's take Timothy Bradley's duck of Amir Khan as an example. I use this example because its a fight that is universally accepted by boxing fans as a fight that needs to happen. But his defenders were using excuses like it made no financial sense, and/or that he could make just as much money fighting someone much easier.

But ultimately, these fighters make their money from us fans. So they should fight the fights that we want.

As boxing fans, its our job to demand the best fights. We shouldn't lose sight of this.

To answer your question, yes, ducking has become acceptable. It's a good business decision for a young fighter (e.g. Canelo or Khan before him) not to take on the elite fighters too early in his career.

Bradley's duck however was unacceptable, he is ready for Khan and vice versa. That is why it was so controversial.

Yes it has. Boxers, or more likely promoters have ducked forever and we as fans are o.k IF it's one of our favorites. I like Bradley and i respect him not wanting to fight Khan under Shaw promo but if he KNEW he could beat Khan he PROBABLY would have. When Khan was viewed as the cash cow at 140 he sidestepped Bradley for Maidana. Ortiz won his belt from Berto, and acted like he BEAT maidana, saying maidana doesn't deserve "rematch" cause he's "not on my level". Berto was undefeated champ, making millions, and ARUM claimed he was not enuff of a draw for Pac as if Clottey was, even resorting to complaining about Berto making good money!! So IMO, ducking aint new and we only get mad when it ain't our favs.

Ducking is acceptable when the fighter admits they are ducking. If they dont, its not.

People are too quick to call duck nowadays. If a fighter doesn't fight one guy in order to fight someone else legit, that's not a duck.
