I agree - until Rahman wins the title in the ring, it's just a piece of paper he holds and only because someone has to.

He's a decent fighter though so it's conceivable he will actually defend it and bring some legitimacy to his claim.

Don't think so, I think he will loose to the first decent boxer he fights. Of course, King could always organize Golota vs. Rahman

What do you mean he "didn't truely win the title"? At least he fought for it in the ring and didn't just receive the piece of paper and the belt.

I`d be more inclined to recognize Chris Byrd ( Boxrec does ). Byrd has been the longest title holder and doesn't carry the Ruiz and Rahman contraversy over their title claims. byrd maybe boring and many people see that he is declining with each fight but at least he has a bit of a win streak where Rahman and Ruiz seem to suffer nearly as many losses as they have wins lately!

Here's how I see it. Lennox Lewis was the linear champion, but he was never beat before he retired. So we get four champions, all of which should be considered paper champions until one starts unifying belts. The first guy to win 2 belts would be the champ in my book, but nobody wanted to unify. So no, Vitali was NOT the champ, and Rahman is NOT the champ.

However, Rahman brings a lot more prestige to the belt.

Rahman WKO5 Lewis (last HW champion)
Vitali LTKO6 Lewis (last HW champion)

Rahman rose to the occasion and won where Vitali couldn't. Rahman is a 2 time WBC champion, 1 time undisputed champion. Vitali is a 1 time WBC champion, never undisputed champion.

Rahman was KO'ed by Maskaev in 8
Vitali was TKO'ed by Maskaev in 1

                  Rahman KO'ed Sanders in 7
                  Vitali TKO'ed Sanders in 8

I mean, there is absolutely NO argument that Vitali is better than Rahman. None whatsoever! Every accolade Klitschko has, RAHMAN HAS ONE BETTER.

                  Rahman owns Vitali

So who is the boxer closest to being a champion: the boxer who fought for it in the ring and defended it once, or the guy who got it handed over because someone retired?

Great post except Vitali was never TKOed or KOed by Maskaev and I believe they never even fought.
