  • hand wraps not an issue

Cotto fought a great fight and the hand wraps had nothing to do with it. PPL can assume all they want about the loaded hand wraps in the first Cotto vs Margarito fight, but if you don't have evidence then you don't have a case. Innocent until proven guilty! In the first fight, cotto fought the wrong fight thats why he lost and not because of the hand wraps. If Cotto trades punches with Marg he will always loose because Marg can take his punches and he will eventually end up hurting cotto and Cotto knows that and thats why Cotto was backpedaling and boxing smart even though he knew Marg didn't have loaded gloves.

Cotto was blameing his loss to Margarito on the hand wraps and PPL say that his face wasn't marked up as much as in the first fight, but it had nothing to do with the wraps, Cotto just fought a smart fight in the rematch. If you remember Cotto's face after the Paquiao fight, it looked the same as in the first fight with Margarito and Manny didn't have loaded gloves, its just that Cotto tryed to fight Pac's fight when he didn't have to. Cotto has way more skills that Pac and Margarito put together, but Cotto just has to use his brain. BTW I like both fighters but I was going for Margarito! All I can remember is Cotto kneeling down for margarito so they would stop the fight and Margarito asking for more rounds and wanted to keep fighting in the rematch. Margarito made him bow and Cotto couldn't do the same to Margarito!

          I agree with this.

I’ll type slowly, in case you’re still a little woozy from Saturday night.

And if you get the sense that I’m feeling no sympathy, you’re right.

Bet you’re looking back between the Tylenols to the glory days when your man was blowing out the grimy underbelly of the welterweight division, prompting the breathless to sing his praises as the pedestrian WBO title defenses – Lujan, Cintron, Gomez, Clottey – piled up like cord wood.

I remember it reached a noisy crescendo the night he bludgeoned Miguel Cotto into surrender in 2008, and I can still recall sitting in my in-laws’ house in Tennessee – listening to the broadcast crew infer that somehow this was the guy striking fear into the heart of a then-sabbaticaled Floyd Mayweather Jr.

We all know I’m a Floyd guy. And I make no apologies for it.

But even the objective journalist type in me that night was thinking: “This dude? Really?”

I’ll bet it feels like about a thousand years ago now, huh?

A subsequent match with Shane Mosley looked like a win-win cakewalk six months after Cotto, designed to give gruff but lovable “Tony” a chance to ****e the resume with a big name whose last significant win in the division was by then already more than eight years past tense.

Stooge! LOL! Margo is nowhere near our best guy at that approximate weight. The fight was another bogus fight in the bogus Mexico vs Puerto Rico rivalry to make Arum $$$. Why would I have a headache or not be able to eat?

Moseley is a known steroid user, Margo was trying to even the playing field.

Margo landed 100 fewer shots vs Cotto and wasn't able to do anything in the 2nd half of the fight(because of the injury suffered against PACROID)--- which is where he does much, much better work.

Sorry that it didn't mean anything to us. Hope you can eat and that the reality hasn't left you too woozy

I am not going to say that I agree with you, just that I cannot argue.

Fair points, but there will always be a question mark.

Margarito's punches did not appear to have the same effect on Cotto.

                  • I will never forget two things.....

1.) Roach was interviewed just prior to the Margarito fight. During that interview Freddie stated that when he was watching video's of Margarito's previous fights to prepare Manny, he could tell which fights Tony used loaded gloves because of the way the punches landed.

2.) if you have two people telling you two completely different stories, and you want to determine who is lying, get them both in the same room and allow them to interview each other..... it will soon become obvious who is telling the truth. In the face-off for that fight, Freddie looked Margarito square in the eye and stated something like "we know what you did", Freddie was angry when he made that comment, so in my opinion he had 100% faith that what he was saying was true..... Margarito was largely non-responsive, and yes I understand about the language barrier.

Also, Margarito's punches did not seem to have the same effect on Cotto in the rematch.
