Nah, Margarito's eye started to be a real factor by the second the second half.

In the first fight, Margo's best rounds where the second, the 7th, and the 11th.

In this fight it was probably the fourth, and it was nothing like any of the three rounds mentioned above, mainly because of Cotto's gameplan.

These "would have" and other conspiracy theories don't add anything to what happened. The facts are that Cotto was dominating the fight and way ahead on all scorecards and rightfully so. Margarito had 9 full rounds and was not able to be really effective. What is the basis to say that he would do in 3 minutes what he was not even close to doing in 27?

I think Margarito, as usual, showed a lot of courage and desire and I was admiring that, but that disappeared after all the excuses he's mentioned and the way he refuses to give any credit to Cotto. I know they hate each other but it would be a very honorable thing to take your loss like a man and go back to the drawing board with your head up high. It gets even worse when some of his fans just deny the facts and act as if Margarito just needed 30 seconds of the 10th round to put Cotto to sleep out of nowhere when it was clear that Margarito had vision problems, was getting tired also, and seemed much weaker than in 2008. Otherwise, how was Cotto able to push him to the ropes on several occasions? Honestly, who expected to see Margarito against the ropes in a fight with Cotto? I know I did not expect it.

Cotto had a very good fight plan and it worked. It's time to turn the page and stop dwelling on what might have been.
I have'nt seen one thread defending Margarito so what are you talking about? I do believe that Margarito should've been able to go on. They stole the round in which he took over in the first fight. His eye was much worse in the Pacquiao fight. Cotto's face looked just as rough as it did in the first fight. They wanted Cotto to get a stoppage so it seems to people that he got revenge. He did'nt revenge ****. Marg beat the piss out of him and made him quit. We all know Margarito is'nt the same fighter since being destroyed by Mosley.

It does not have to be a thread, just read a few replies to see what I saw. His eye was worse in the Pacquiao fight but there's a big difference. In that fight, the level of damage was unknown so they let it continue. This time, it was known that his eye had sustained damage, plus he had surgery for cataracts. The two fights can not be compared and the NYSAC does not want blood on their hands after all the circumstances prior to the fight, circumstances that put the fight in jeopardy.

I have nothing more to add. Anyone believes whatever they want to believe, facts are facts and the fight is over. Nothing else will change.

I must also add that Cotto was winning the rematch with little to indicate that Antonio would've won the fight had it continued. I'm simply speculating that the match probably shouldn't have happened in the first place. As for "revenge"...if winning means revenge, then Miguel got his. The way the fight ended, the revenge doesn't seem so sweet as it could be. Still, the record will always show that Cotto and Margarito are even.

Was a great fight not the ending everyone was hoping for no matter who you were rooting for. Margarito could still see out that eye, he answered all the doctors questions and got all the number of finger the doctor help up correctly. Their was no reason to stop the fight. Margarito got the clearance to fight so they should be no special precaution out side the norm, Meaning if this was anyone else they would have let him carry on.

Cotto Dominated the whole fight with his boxing and game plan they decided to use. Margarito in round 9 looked like he was changing the tide of the fight, the expression on cotto face Will tell you he was worried, The way he face was ****** up will tell you them punches wasnt making their effect on cotto.

Overall I call this fight a dud. This fight ended in a Pow not a ****

another thing why the doctor going to give Margarito a eye test in between the round that he passes and the doctor still stops the fight. Why give him a eye test then. That right their was fishy to me.

we had basically the same ****ing fight the difference was the eye swelling caused by a thumb and if you paid attention even the ring side Cottosexuals said the same **** from rounds 4 through 7 and in the 9th it was clear the fight was shifting.

There was nothing different about this fight except the eye and Cotto made minor adjustments, but by the 9th you could see that Tony had applied enough pressure to make up for Cottos adjustment.

Look at Tonys reaction when the bell to end the 9th sounded, (Glove slicing the throat) telling Garcia Cotto was all done...

The difference in this fight is Cotto may have gotten stopped or quit again in the 12th rather than the 11th.

You do know that if they had let it continue and by some freak accident Margarito loses his eye permanently that NYSAC is in deep shit! right?

You think that entire S.A.C. was gonna risk their reputation and integrity for a fight that wasn't gonna change?..I mean Margarito knew the severity of his eye and the role it would play in this fight. He started bleeding in the 3rd and had from the 4th thru the 10th to press harder and stop Cotto before they stopped it because of his eye, and he did absolutely nothing in those rounds to prove he was gonna turn the tables and make Cotto lose focus.

I'm almost positive that if the fight was split 4 rounds to 4 and it was amazingly competitive the Dr. would've given him a shot, but it was a shut out and Margarito was taking too many shots to the eye from jabs to powerful left hooks, he was done. It was over.
