All Hail The Rock! New WBC Champ!

I've been The Rock's most out-spoken supporter on this site for the entirety of calendar '05, and now....he's the King! (all pun intended)

for all of you Quit-schko fans: TOLD YA SO! The man was frightened of The Rock, he found a way out of fighting The Rock on 4 occasions this year, and now rather than coming out and stating the obvious (that he's scared of The Rock), he quits for the FIFTH TIME this year and "retires" (he'll be back in 18-20 months though)....

for all of the Rock haters: you don't gotta like the situation, but you gotta face reality: ROCK IS WBC CHAMP, period

for all of my fellow Rock fans: I'm all for a Toney or Brewster fight, both are much more exciting fights, on paper, than Quitschko vs. either guy....plus Rock vs. James/Lamon would go a long way in distinguishing who the "People's Champ" would be (i'm not nieve enough to think that Rock picking up the WBC strap makes him the champ in the eyes of the people, but a big W would definitely cement his spot at the top)

where should The Rock go from here?!!?!

I think he'll have to fight a mandatory 1st, maybe against Toney (Who, you may remember, was #1 in the WBC before he signed to destroy Johnny Louise), or the winner of the SSS/Oleg fight... I'm not sure how it works when the interim champ becomes the World Champ

It doesn't matter, he won't be able to beat any of the other belt holders anyway. Tua had him hurt bad enough to provoke a premature stoppage, what do you think Toney would do to him on the inside? Even Ruiz has already beat him and rattled him good in the process. I don't think he'll be able to hit Byrd, and I don't think he'll be able to land the right hand on any of them, he'll probably get KO'd by Brewster. I doubt he'll even want to try to unify the belts.

...You absolutely right and the Rock will make a fine champion. We know he is the kind of guy to "never" put on a fat show and will always come to the ring in great shape and highly motivated. We can rest assured that we will never see him doing his best WWF impression by flying threw the air and out of the ring when hit with a punch. He also will never bore anyone as his fights are ultra exciting and a huge draw, and he never leaves anything up to the judges. In fact, his last fight was one the most exciting of the last 10 million years I would say. Another attribute he posseses is a granite chin that I know will never get tapped. Oh thank you God for delivering the great "Hasim Rahman".

If he fights any of the other belt holders he will be defeated.

WBC has votes to crown Rock!
The WBC has now received sufficient votes from its Board of Governors to declare Hasim Rahman the undisputed WBC heavyweight champion of the world. The WBC will make it effective when all the votes are received and prepare an official ceremony to present Hasim Rahman as the champion. The Board of Governors will also meet in the near future to decide the next steps in the division, specifically who Rahman will be required to fight. 1) the winner of the elimination bout between Sinan Samil Sam and Oleg Maskaev, to be held in Hamburg, Germany this coming Saturday; 2) James Toney; or 3) Wladimir Klitschko. No decision will be made before the meeting of the Board of Governors is held.
