Realistically, Canelo needs one more fight to set-up a Cotto Super Fight.

Perhaps on the supposed May 5th Mayweather undercard.

A Canelo vs Cotto PPV on Sep 16 (Mexican Independence Day) weekend would be bomb in Vegas and do HUGE PPV numbers.

Canelo already beat Cotto's older bro, so that can fit nicely into the promotional hype

Who would be the best step-up opponent towards the Cotto Super Fight?

    Mosley?
    Margarito?
    Angulo?

    Thoughts?

He needs a fight that will be competitive and will give him trouble

He has never really faced adversity and if he fights cotto without facing some, first moment of adversity against him he wont know what to do

Funny part is the last time he had any trouble was against Cotto

He doesn't need to fight another bum to get KO'd by Cotto.

The overrated kid will struggle against Cotto no matter what bum they put in front of him next.

Canelo is too strong and big for Cotto IMO.

His speed is decent as well.

I think Cotto should move back to 147 fight the Berto-Ortiz winner.

Canelo should fight Chavez or a top JMW.

That's why I'm saying one more fight. A fight that will validate the hype or expose the kid. I'm not sold on him yet, and many other fans feel the same way. But if they put the right guy in front of him, and he performs according to the hype, then I think a Cotto unification fight in September would be about right, from a competitive and promotional standpoint. Cotto's beast, but he's seen better days.

That being said, maybe a dominant performance against Mosley?

Or what if he outdoes Cotto's performance against Margarito or Mayorga?

An Angulo fight could turn ugly and taxing.

Too much risk in fighting Kirkland right now. That dude's an animal.

That's what makes it intriguing. Youth, speed and strength vs skill and experience. The Mex vs PR spin makes it a natural fight for September.

But I do like the idea of Cotto vs the Berto-Ortiz winner.

I think Chavez is too big for both Canelo and Cotto at this point. The kid is huge; big for a Middleweight.

I thought that until the fight yesterday

Cotto showed great movement and Canelo has as much head movement as Marg.

He has never faced someone who would give him trouble and Cotto will def trouble the ***** outta him

It's also one of those veteran-youngster fight were Canelo doesnt know the tricks yet

I actually really wanna see this fight now

Ortiz weighed 165 vs Floyd and Cotto weighed 161 vs Margo.

The styles would make for an awesome fight

Canelo-Chavez needs to happen before Chavez turns into a SMW. Fat bastard.

Ortiz vs Cotto would be awesome, but it may have to happen at a, get ready for it.... Catchweight, or maybe Ortiz would be willing to move up to challenge for Cotto's Jr. Middleweight strap.
