Comments Thread For: Arum: Brandon Rios-Mike Alvarado at 140, No Gamboa

Madison Square Garden, New York - Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is not even going to consider a possible fight between Yuriorkis Gamboa and Brandon Rios (29-0, 22KOs). Gamboa was toying with the idea of moving up by two weight divisions to challenge Rios for the WBA lightweight title. Rios had trouble making the lightweight limit on Friday for his scheduled fight with John Murray. Rios was stripped of the belt, but stopped Murray in eleven rounds. The next move for Rios is a jump to junior welterweight and a possible clash with Mike Alvarado (32-0, 23KOs).

Rios vs Alvarado would be a good fight for his first fight at 140. I wouldn't order a ppv for it though. There are a lot of good fights for Rios at 140. The fight I would pay to see is Maidana vs Rios. That has foty written all over it. Rios fighting any of the top jww would be fun to watch. I wanted to see Rios vs Guerrero at 135 but they could make that fight now. Bradley, Peterson, Khan, Matthysse would all be good fights to see. He sinks or swims in this division imo, he won't have the size advantage any more. But if he bring his power with him in this division he will be a force to reckoned with.

Holy that would be an amazing fight of the year type fight. Hope it happens! Honestly it would be my most anticipated fight than any other only outdone by Pac vs Floyd.

That sucks. I was really looking forward to Gamboa vs. Rios.

But if he can't make the weight, he can't make the weight.
