I've noticed they are heavily focusing on staying active, on their toes and rotating. Cotto looks as solid as I've ever seen him. Now, it will come down to if he can keep that pace through the fight and the question we all wonder - if Margarito's punches are really as solid as they were the first time around, enough to slow and break him down.

hey, nice one for this mate. been really enjoying watching cotto's work under pedro diaz.
i spent a lot of time in cuba and their training is brilliant, very intelligent and artistic. i really rate what diaz is doing. just hope that it's not too late to help cotto change, but he's certainly looking a whole lot classier and i can't see margarito keeping up with that movement, or movement with punches i should say, which is a whole lot more effective than just moving around and pot-shotting.Comment

In that video the trainer talks a bit about Cotto's stamina and he looks up in his stats notebook and then mentions Cotto today has a 40 basal pulse rate. I did a bit of research and it seems like that's an elite measurement.Comment

Additionally, Pedro mentiones regarding his recoup rate. He states that a month ago Cotto's would recuperate at ~17% in one minute after his max HR, towards the end of the training cycle he was recuperating ~48% in one minute after his max HR. He also said that there is a diference between a marathon runner HR, and a boxer's HR, the boxer has to be able to recup in a minute window.
He goes further to say that its world class, and he could (the interviewee) ask anyone and get the verification.
Cotto mentions that he is not bringing the "anger" into the fight, since that could be detrimental to his performance and he "left that behind".
Lastly, Diaz said that he and Cotto have the same mentality regarding wanting Margarito to be at his peak (physicaly, eye, etc) since they are going to bring it (or something along those lines)......lol!

A common theme Ive noticed with Cotto's training this time around is the emphasis on fighting on the back foot. It seems they know Margarito is going to try to push the fight, so I think it's a good strategy at least in the sense of what Cotto had trouble with in the 1st fight let alone his career when he's pushed.Comment
