  • Sounds like Arum is trying to bait Floyd to a fighter's contract for this mega fight, hence the "regular ordinary deal" remark.

Arum wants to cut out GBP, which is fine as long as he sweetens the pot for Floyd otherwise I don't see him ditching GBP for zero gain.
Arum wants to cut out Mayweather Promotions, which is not going to happen...
Regardless of what Arum offers Floyd as a fighter, he can make more as a co-promoter.

If Floyd wants to make a deal with "the devil" so he can get his $100mm, then that's fine by me... I just want to see the fight.

He's not going to get anything close to what he wants signing on as "Manny's opponent." Arum just doesn't want the fight.

      • Remember Cooney vs. Holmes? Both were guaranteed and got 10 mill, but the fight grossed over 60 mill. What happened to the rest of the money? Don King Productions.

Why do you think he does in-house fights anyway? Use your head.
There aren't just "TWO FIGHTERS" there are probably 16-20 fighters. and there are literally dozens of principal important figures involved in an average huge production, and this will be a one-of-a-kind HUGE production, and Arum is responsible for the payment of salaries, fighters, arena, advertising, 24/7, and a million and 1 other things that neither you nor I can possibly think of.

I suggest that you look up the duties and responsibilities of promoters on the internet, it will open your eyes. I did and I was really impressed with all the promoter has to do for his money. He earns every cent of it, as you will agree when you read up on it as I did.

And,as to your point, I was just making my own point as to WHY everybody is always associating Arum with "money". Why not pick on someone else?? Why not point out the good things that Arum does with his millions of dollars yearly to charities around the world.

Why not point up the fact that during all the years that Chicanito Hernandez was suffering from cancer and taking very expensive chemotherapy treatments for it, (I've read $10,000 a treatment) it was all paid for, for years, by Bob Arum. Not only that, he had a Top Rank man bring him to the treatment and bring him back home...for years. And not only that, he supported the whole Hernandez family for those same years, and is likely supporting them still. And it was all done "under the radar'. We read all this on BOXINGSCENE after he died. So why do we always post the worst and not the best.

And he was doing this quietly, with no fanfare, no PR, no "big gesture" announcing that he was going to pay for the funeral (like someone else we know) as he probably did anyway, with no fuss or publicity.

          • And, since "money" is such a popular subect, why has nobody-except me- ever commented on Oscar's declared main ambition which, according to his TV and published interviews was to become a billionaire........

Why did you write all this crap? You refuted nothing I said. And BTW are you implying that ALL the fighters are in on the PPV split? No, so why bring that up? ANYWAY...like I said, you didn't contradict anything he said.

Simple game of show and tell with these quotes. He's showing us everything (for the smart ones) and telling us nothing. You don't want Ellerbe involved? These muther****ers are trying to avoid the fight yet AGAIN.
He commits to nothing, and offers no specifics, so that he can backtrack later..... he is a master bull**** artist.

i don't like arum too but who cares what the guy says or thinks? he's a greedy businessman who likes to control people...who doesn't? i can't think of one successful businessman who is not greedy for profits and power.

the thing with you fanatics is all about winning a forum war...who's to blame for the fight not happening. no news is good news to you if it doesn't serve your agenda...and that is to ****ride your favorite fighter.
Stop being so naive, it is clearly obvious that Bob Arum has been blocking that fight. Folks are entitled to be reasonably concerned that he is still preventing the fight from taking place, because we have seen nothing to the contrary, and the situation with Koncz is clearly just another one of his games.

If that's the case then the licencing must have been recent because as recently as a year or 18 months ago the same commission, in answer to a press query stated that Mayweather had never held a promoting licence and therefore could not promote a fight. I am interested. How did they take the "lead"? Was it just that they had their name more prominently displayed? As far as I understood it was Golden Balls which promoted that fight as they have for the past years. And I don't recall seeing any major representative of Mayweather Promotions make any announcments or TV comments as representing Mayweather Promotions.

Interesting..... Let me add that just now I looked up the internet, and of the 7 reports I read, including Dan Rafael, 4 reported that it was a Golden Boy promotion, 1 an Oscar DeLaHoya Promotion, and 1 a Richard Schafer/Golden Boy promotion. One mentioned that Mayweather Productions was involved in the promotion, and that wasn't really a report but a compu-box item.

Lead means the same that it means in anything else, edgar. It's like the relationship between a first mortgage position and mezz in the commercial real estate space. You shell out the most and get paid first. And yeah, they were licensed toward the end of last year, I believe. Try watching the fight AND googling. Pow, poof! More of your bull**** going where it should...the toilet.
