I ran into Cotto in Dallas last year before the Pac-Margarito fight at a Mavericks game. I just said hello and shook his hand as he was walking by, didn't bother to talk to him but I can understand that he is introverted and it doesn't bother me.

As mentioned, he is not a big guy. I towered over him lol, but no doubt he would knock me out with one punch.

He looked in great shape, I know Marg will be ready and I can't wait for this fight. I just hope it's a good one and we don't see something happen early to end it.

The fact is he was just proud and confident of his abilities. Trinidad was so accepted and admired that even when he had the scandal with the model and the kid out of wedlock, his image did not suffer much if anything at all. It was almost like giving him a free pass because of his excellent "social" record.

If Cotto was half as approachable as Trinidad I could imagine the parades here and the car horns honking as soon as his victories were set in stone. Do you remember the one when the Trinidad-DLH decision was read? That was incredible and it has not happened with any other boxer since.
I was probably as young as you back then. In fact, I wasn't even watching the DLH-Tito fight. I was in some part of my grandmother's house reading a GamePro magazine my parents had bought for me that day. I was a kid. But I remember it was huge following the decision. EVERYBODY in Puerto Rico went crazy following the decision. We really haven't had anything like that since. Even if Cotto had won his biggest fight (in his first against Margarito), it would've never been 1/4 as hyped as DLH/Tito. It's going to be at least another 20 years or so before we see someone that brings as much as hype and hope to Puerto Rico as Tito did.

Yeah, I know. I wasn't disagreeing with you or anything even though it looked like that. My bad.

I was just trying to elaborate on what you had said. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I was thinking more something to do with the eye. Regardless of what happened or didn't happen, as a boxing fan I want to see each man get a victory by fighting.

I don't want to see Marg's eye stop the fight or something else happen. I want to see these two warriors go at it and see who wins.

I'm worried about the eye though because they said Marg couldn't see for like 4 months without blurred vision and I didn't know he had a second operation for cataracts.

I'll be 29 in a couple of weeks. How old are you?

In Puerto Rico, it's Gómez, Trinidad, and... we still have not had another fighter from that mold. Maybe a decade from now or so. We'll see.

Gómez and Trinidad...aside from that, we have had very solid fighters, but none as BELOVED as those two from what I've gathered from reading and listening to my father talk.

Pedraza indeed looks promising. He also looks a lot like Borat, ha! Anyway, I think if Wilfredo Vázquez Jr. works hard, he could be but I still have my doubts. Jonathan Oquendo is really humble and also a goof fighter, but you get the feeling that his time is passing by and he still has not had the opportunities he deserves. I hope Oquendo becomes our next work champion.
