If these guys are looking for $50 million guarantees a piece (double in Floyd's case ), then you need outside investors... unless Arum or Oscar have $100 million in loose change in their jeans or under their mattress.

But a fight that's guaranteed to return on big investments is a no brainer for anyone looking to turn a quick, easy profit. That's why you had groups from South Africa, Singapore, etc all willing to guarantee the fighters $50-$65 million so readily and eagerly. They invest $100-130 million, the fight makes $300-400 million. So they make a ridiculous profit in like 4 months and all they have to do is make a down payment.

I remember in the very beginning, back in late '09 Arum mentioned that some major companies like Pepsi were looking to get in on the action. If Floyd gets a guarantee he likes and a pro like Arum is putting the thing together... why is GBP necessary? Especially since as far as we know, Floyd isn't signed to their company, so why pay them when he doesn't have to?

Amateurish **** by GBP to not sign any form of contract and just freelance (unless they have some official paperwork we don't know about). They must've ****ted their pants when Floyd was flirting with Don King last year. This news won't make them happy either.

Now if Ellerbe or Team Mayweather disagrees, then they should speak out..

Thats good and all, but mention investment groups when things are solid or a done deal. Cause things are usually even shaker when it comes to things like this. So no need of mentioning things like this at such a early stage like Arum likes to do.

Not to worry though, Arum is also working on an excuse as to why it all can't happen by the time he ends up talking to Pacquiao after Christmas.

this smells like a pile of horse **** to me. didn't mayweather ask GBP to make him the biggest fight possible for may 5th? why he would bypass them to negotiate a deal with arum...when these two can't even stand each other? strange if true.

MANILA, Philippines — Top Rank big boss Bob Arum disclosed on Sunday he is holding talks with at least two investment groups keen on staging the megabuck match between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather – boxing’s premier attractions. Arum said Pacquiao’s adviser.

Mike Koncz is also involved in the negotiations, confirming a statement made by the Filipino fighter late last week that something is going on in efforts to stage the mouth-watering clash between the two leading claimants to the mythical title of pound-for-pound king.

What tickles Arum’s fancy is the fact that the same group “is also in talks with Mayweather.”

“Mayweather is going solo,” said Arum, noting that the Oscar De La Hoya-owned Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) is not involved in the on-going discussions.

Arum said Mayweather doesn’t want GBP to be involved in the talks that’s why GBP Chief Executive Officer Richard Schaefer is unaware of the meetings that have been taking place.

Arum, who turns 80 early next month, said he is “seriously exploring a Mayweather fight” and that “everybody is going over the moon” in the event the fight is made.

But in the event nothing concrete and positive comes out of the talks with interested parties, he will pursue the next best thing – a fourth fight involving Pacquiao and Mexican counter-puncher Juan Manuel Marquez.

Meanwhile, Arum said he is excited to know the final numbers of the Pacquiao-Marquez III pay-per-view (PPV) buys.

“This is going to be Manny’s biggest (PPV) ever,” said Arum.

Pacquiao posted his largest PPV showing last May against Shane Mosley with 1.3 million buys.

This time, the minimum Arum is looking at is 1.4 million buys, and it could even hit 1.5 million.

Pacquiao earned $22 million in the Marquez fight and he stands to earn more as he also has a share in the PPV sales.
