My dad being 60 years old and a big boxing fan, has pics of him in Duran fights, has a pic with Don King, and has pics with Joan Guzman back when Guzman was younger....he himself told me he doesn't see what people are talking about, boxing is the same sport it always was. He said boxers always fought for money and even boxers from way back were divas with making fights.
People have always moaned about boxing dying but it has lost a great deal of fan base imo. Back in the 60's guys like Patterson were some of the most popular sporstmen in America. Its difficult to say just how much boxing has gone down since then. People may have moaned back then but they at least cared these days hardly anyone watches boxing imo.

I will agree that boxers have always fought for money but the fan base has gone.

Hard working people put their money down to see the pathetic nonevent that was Hopkins-Dawson.

Meanwhile, Angulo-Kirkland received virtually no promotion and went unnoticed by anyone but us hardcore fans really.

      This is a problem.

As a die hard boxing fan, I'd have to say no. Some of the things that transpire can cause us to shake our heads in disgust. However, it's not easy to kill someone or something that dies hard. It can be accomplished but it takes a heck of a lot to accomplish it. There's just too much going on in the sport to be hung up on one thing. There's always something that can overshadow the bs. Fights like Wolak-Rodriguez are the fights that keep real boxing fans tuned in. Good topic and good question. Nicely done poster.

Some of you guys complain way too much. No, it's not perfect but when is anything perfect. Never in the history of the sport has there been such interest in weight classes under the welterweight limit. Certainly the sport hasn't been so popular in so many nations either. The sport is bigger, globally than it has ever been before.

Are you stateside, if you are, forget about hbo. Showtime easily & I mean easily is the better network to have, if your a real boxing fan. Friday night fights absolutely steal the show. Young up-n-comers are matched tough.

You don't see guys like Broner fighting tomatoe cans on showbox, real talk. Boxing is alive & well on showtime. I tune into hbo just because. But I look forward to showtime events. There aren't many mismatches over there. If Canelo, JCC or Broner were on showtime they'd have to **** or get off the pot, on hbo they get to hog the pot while other guys really need to **** but can't cause of them.

I am in California and believe me,I watch show time ,hbo, gala vision ,espn Friday nights, telefutura, etc, etc.and we always comment how much better show time fights are,but my point here is an overall.I never mentioned or even implied that boxing is dying, but more like what boxing is doing to us,the hardcore fans, that knows names, stats, etc, that don't care about names or star power, but more like, who might be the next champ...
