When did it become customary for 154lb-160lbs fighters to call out Welterweights?

Why don't these guys Sergio Martinez, Canelo build their divisions. I think this is one of the biggest problems with the sport and why the other divisions lack luster. It's because too many fighters are opting to fight outside of their class at catch weights for larger paydays.

Canelo calling out Floyd, arguably the best there is and Canelo himself isn't even #1 in his own division, Cotto is.

The main difference between Canelo and Martinez is that Sergio is considered as the #1 MW in the world, and one of the top 5 P4P boxers. Even though he doesn't has a championship belt right now, he's the most feared MW.
Canelo on the other hand has faced crappy opposition, his hardest challenge was against a shot Cintron, and he still hasn't proved that he's able to beat the best in the division, and now it turns that he's already calling Floyd?

Here is a list of guys Canelo can fight before trying to get a chance with Floyd:

• Erislandy Lara
• Winner of Cotto/Margarito
• Carlos Molina
• James Kirkland
• Austin Trout

And of course there are a lot of other LMW that could really be a challenge for Canelo but that may not the best or at their best, for example:

• Serhiy Dzinziruk
• Alfredo Angulo
• Paul Williams
• Vanes Martirosyan
• Winner of Wolak/Rodriguez

very thoughtful and argumented post..... canelo is easy work for floyd. he looked completely winded after 5 rounds with a zombie cintron. floyd is gonna make him work all 12 rounds, and the kid is going to fall flat because of exhaustion.

That Floyd better put his track shoes on and be prepared to run.

That philly shell thing or whatever will get him killed v.s. Canelo because he just won't beat him on the inside.

I dont think he's ready at the moment, I dont think the hype is there at the moment, We havent heard the Mayweather is ducking Canelo or scared etc but am sure in the next two or three fights we would get to that hype point.
