The Racket Squad: When It Was A Sport

Mr.Lyle was the definition of the great 70's heavyweight.
He was tough, valient, vicious but never won the big one.
Can you imagine were the Russian Champs would be ranked if they had to contend with Muhammad, Larry Holmes, Smokin' Joe, Quarry, Lyle, George Chuvalo, Oscar Bonavena, Ernie Shavers, Renaldo 'Mr'. Snipes, Gerry Cooney, Scott Ledoux, Jimmy Young or Jimmy Ellis?

This is why I laugh whenever Chris Arreola opens his mouth about anoth shot at the Title.
The Heavweight Title was once the greatest prize within all sports competition.
Today it's a joke much like the majority of the fighters who claim greatness but take soft opposition as they wait to cash in.

Ron Lyle was as game as they came and he faced the best when they were still the best.

Foreman vs. Lyle was great!! But youtube Lyle vs. Shavers. Now that was a battle beyond anything you could imagine.

                    R.I.P.
