Comments Thread For: Antonio Margarito, Kermit Cintron: The Outlaw, The Killer

By Thomas Gerbasi - With enough false starts and questions marks in what has still been a solid professional boxing career - one that can raise itself to a new level should he defeat Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for the junior middleweight title this Saturday - you can’t mention Kermit Cintron’s nickname “The Killer” without more than a few caveats.

In fact, if anyone deserved that nickname, it was the man who provides the asterisks on Cintron’s 33-4-1 record, Antonio Margarito, a fighter who has enough names thrown at him these days, few of them complimentary.

It wasn’t always that way though. On his way up the ranks, Margarito was almost destined to earn the same respect and adoration shown to his Mexican countrymen Julio Cesar Chavez, Marco Antonio Barrera, and Erik Morales. The Tijuana native didn’t have the natural ability or technical skill of those aforementioned stars, but what he lacked, he made up for with guts, determination, and a relentless pressure that broke opponents. He wasn’t pretty, but oh, he was exciting. [Click Here To Read More]

Antonio Margarito, Kermit Cintrón: The outlaw, The Killer

Mr. Gerbasi, I completely agree with your "tremendous" and lengthy article. I take off my hat to you! ...Since the "illegal raps incident" I have been considering almost the same exact thoughts you express in your present article. These thoughts are very consuming; I wonder how they may have mentally affected Cintrón, Cotto, and others?
Imagine if Cintrón beats Alvarez on Nov 26 and Cotto does the same with Margarito on Dec 3. Imagine a Cintrón/Margarito trilogy where Cintrón came out victorious!
I know it sounds like too many [ifs] but if these 3 aforementioned possibilities come to fruition would you please be so kind to write the continuation of this your present article, even if it's not so lengthy?

I also agree. I am convinced that Margarito cheated for a long time before getting caught. He shouldn't be allowed in the sport anymore.

If u saw the Margarito vs Clottey, Cotto, Cintron fights you'll see how Margarito hurt all of them and he was punching arms, shoulders and everything. These are some of the toughest fighters in the world, whoever truly knows boxing will see and acknowledge this cat is a cheater...

                  STALEMATE !!!

No way to resolve the issue unless Capetillo and Margo come forward with different statements concerning past fights with loaded gloves.

We Americans still live in the land of the free and home of the brave AND you are INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY !!!!!!!!

MR. G in his article has aptly stated that "THERE IS NO PROOF"

so folks go to character bashing to base their opinion

Mine is that Capetillo is the scum bag. He had Margo 40 pounds overweight according to posts 6 weeks before the Mosley fight. He knew of the power of Mosley and Margos style would fit right in so he cheated. HE should never train another fighter and should go to jail for his crimes.

My opinion of Margo is this:

                  1. IF he cheated , if it was proven that he used loaded gloves then he is a scum bag and deserves jail.

                  BUT

                  2. There is NO PROOF and he in my opinion should not be treated like a curdog

                  3. Why would he cheat ? Curs cheat, they try to bluff there is no bluff with Margo !! Curs quit !! There is no QUIT in MARGO !!

Margo is as game as they come,,,one as game as Margo has NO REASON TO CHEAT !!!

                  WHY???

Because he has no reason to believe he will LOSE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

                  MARGO IS GAME !!!!!!!!!

IN all of Margos fights he never QUIT !! Jr wants none of him for that reason in my opinion. Margo takes all you got and then gives you what you don't want.

YOU naysayers ,,,did capetillo load Margos chin ????

Whether you like his style or not it hasn't changed a bit.

When Margo fought Pac, did Margo take a backward step to quit or run away,,,NO !!

GAMENESS is the greatest attribute a fighter can have because without it he can be on top and quit.

HE can be down and quit

HE can be behind and quit

IN the top fights he better be game or he won't win.

Gameness can walk you down,,,,take all you got, and make YOU QUIT !!

JR is smart for example: Margo would take all that JR had which isn't much but more flash and then walk him down to smash him. Margo was made for 15 round fights,,,,,oh for the glory days of long ago !!!!!!!

Gameness is about GLORY not CHEATING !!

IN my opinion until some proof that has NEVER been brought forth, Margo is innocent until PROVEN guilty and nothing more than a bad night for him and boxing, the fans.

My biggest thing that won't let me believe he is a cheater is a game fighter has no reason to cheat because he doesnt' believe he will LOSE

I believe Margo will make COTTO QUIT AGAIN

Cintron really lost to Martinez, Martinez was robbed in that fight. Martinez won twice in my opinion, once by TKO and once by Decision(should have gone Martinez's way on the scorecards even if the fight was competitive at time, I felt Martinez controlled the fight alot more to win on the scorecards.)

Now, I don't know if Cintron was cheated against Margarito or not, only Margarito knows who he possibly cheated and who he didn't. Maybe he didn't cheat anyone and maybe it really was his first time against Mosley, no one will ever know unless one day Margarito comes out and says something without the fear of being sued or anything else.
