Rematch With Margarito Is Cotto's Last Fight On His Contract With Top Rank

People forget that before Bob Arum being scum, there was Don King. I've never been a boxing promoter, but it sounds like in order to be successful you have to be cut throat.
Here are my only gripes about Top Rank/Bob Arum:
1. He got Margarito a licence after the plaster scandal. I thought that was bottom of the barrel.
2. They have all these different reasons why Pac can't take OSDT.
3. Top Rank protecting their fighters from dangerous bouts. Brandon Rios is a Top Rank fighter that leaps out to mind immediately. I just have a pet peeve for not making the fights the public wants to see.
Besides that, I don't have a problem with Arum. I'm not hearing a lot of stories about him ripping people off like King did. I guess that's one positive thing I can say about him.
That said, it's up to Cotto. If I were Cotto, I wouldn't stay with Arum based on the reason that he got Marg his license back. I thought that was grimey. But oh well.Last edited by BoxingGenius27; 11-23-2011, 10:18 PM.Comment

ummm arum wanted to do the fight. he even guaranteed floyd at least 7 million(much more than his previous career high at the time) but floyd demanded 10 million to fight a JWW cotto(same amount floyd got to fight delahoya) how can arum guarantee 10 million when cotto wasn't even a big star and mayweather was only doing 350k buys? it's called pricing yourself out. arum loves to do in house fights. he would have loved to make that fight because no matter who wins he wins.
floyd was never ever going to fight cotto no matter the money. he just wanted to get out of his contract so he made a bunch of ridiculous demands 10 million for cotto, 10 million for hatton, 20 million for delahoya. once he was out of his contract he happily accepted 10 million to fight delahoya which punches a hole in his credibility and shows that his demands were just a trick to get out of his contract and not fight those guys.

i said this two days ago when someone covering the margarito license fiasco posted it on twitter...
edit: its @ChrisMannixSI
go read his timeline, apparently there is tension between top rank and cotto and top rank has said they dont know whether they'll be able to re-sign him...
ChrisMannixSI Chris Mannix
There is some tension between Cotto and Top Rank. TR doesn't know if they will be able to re-sign Cotto after this fight.
it was clear there is tension when cotto told arum he is not fighting anywhere outside new york because he signed a contract to sign in new york, after cotto said that arum ended the teleconference....
now as far as my opinion, i think he should go with golden boy, and im pretty sure he will... cotto and oscar de lahoya have hanged out several times and both consider each other a friendComment

Doesn't Cotto have his own Promotional company? He should leave Top Rank and run things how he wants to run them. I know its a little harder for a boxer to run his own career but at same time he would be making damn near close to 100 percent of the profit other than paying for his trainer and corner.Comment

Floyd didn't lose his credibility because in his next fight after leaving Top Rank he earned 1 more dollar than Arum's highest offer. Then he fought Oscar for 15 mil guaranteed + a share of the PPVs and gate money so when it was all said and done he made more than 20 million. Do your homework son.Comment
