Comments Thread For: Margarito's License Still in Limbo, Decision Due Tuesday

Antonio Margarito remains in licensing limbo.

The former welterweight champion interrupted his training camp Sunday to fly on a private jet from Toluca, Mexico, to Teterboro, New Jersey. He is scheduled to arrive Sunday night, when he’ll head to a Manhattan hotel to await his fate.

It's good that I held off buying it... but the amount of money i need for this event is steadily being drained

Maybe some of this would have been avoided if they would have stopped the Pacquiao fight on around the 8th round. But who knows. From what I understand, the damage came in the fourth round when Pacquiao opened that huge cut on his eye. Too late now. It is what it is.

If Margarito were to get a license denied in N.Y., in a way it would benefit him cause the other 2 options are in high altitude city's(Denver & Pheonix)& he's already training at high altitude in Mexico so he's already adapting.. Now that would suck for Cotto who's training at sea level in Florida & in a high pressure fight & add the altitude(which he hasn't adapted to) eventually all that will take it's toll & affect him in a very bad way..

I totally agree with U..Them extra 4 rounds(that's an extra 12 minutes) of pounding on that eye that could have intensified the damage & that's why he's in this situation today..Ironically the ref(Cole) that WRONGFULLY didn't stop the Margarito fight is the same ref that stopped the Chavez Jr/Manfredo fight PRIMATURELY last night!!& one could also blame Margarito's corner..

So let me see if I understand this... the decision won't come until Tuesday, the 22nd... the fight is on Dec. 3, meaning if NYS rejects Margarito's application, Top Rank would have a week and 1/2 to find a new arena, sell tickets and fill the space, take care of all the logistical issues (setting up the ring, lights, seating, etc), as well as setting up accomadations for the fighters and their teams (hotels, gyms, weigh in/press conference spaces). Sounds like it would be the king of all logistical nightmares.

If they can successfully get all that together in a week and 1/2, that would be a modern day miracle.
