Sergio Martinez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Martinez by UD. It seems like Julio can take a punch, but he hasn't faced anyone remotely close to having Sergio's power and speed. Sergio could trade with Julio, and the get the better of it, he has far quicker hands than him. Not to say that Julio doesn't have decent hand speed, but Sergio is one of the quickest MW of all-time.
If Julio is as far out classed as many thinks he is, and can't do anything to match Sergio's speed, Martinez may KO him in 8-9 rounds. But, if he can trade well enough with Sergio to survive, and can take a punch like it seems he can, he'll go 12 rounds. I'd favor Sergio by UD (117-111, 118-110, etc.).
This really doesn't matter anyway, Julio will NOT fight Sergio. Julio and Top Rank want a big payday, and Sergio will stop that by whooping Julio. I think Top Rank wants to cash out on Chavez and throw him in with Alvarez, which would be a big money maker, and Chavez would have an alright shot of actually winning that fight, though I'd favor Alvarez 60-40. But, it would be a win-win for Top Rank to fight Saul. If Julio loses, they cashed out big on Julio in that fight, and if he wins, they still cash out big and have more potential paydays after that fight as well. If Julio fights Sergio, he will lose, and won't be nearly as much of a payday as fighting Alvarez, and with that loss, he would lose future potential for more big fights. No way this fight happens.
I honestly expect to see Julio vacate the WBC title, and fight Alvarez. If he loses to Alvarez, I don't think he'd get any big fights anymore, but at least he got the payday against him. If he were to beat Alvarez, he could always fight Pirog, Lee, Rubio, and Quillin, while avoiding Sergio still.Last edited by 4Corners; 11-20-2011, 07:24 AM.

If somebody gives me odds, say in the range of 4-1, Ill have 250 million on Chavez Jr. . . I think he can walk Sergio down and punish him and outwork him. . . Sergio is a stoppage waiting to happen with his "no guard" style defense. . . You see how easily he eats jabs? He gets served jabs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. . . He can't fight going backwards, can't block a punch . . . he can slip and weave pretty good, and his fast feet enable him to SKEET OUT OF THE WAY. . . but if Chavez can cut the ring off, he has enough of a punch to hurt him and sap him. .. Chavez doesn't fight as ****** as Williams, and hits a lot ahrder than williams.

Chavez jr is bigger and solid !unlike Paul williams or skinny bone jones for that matter! Chavez jr is stronger, hits harder could take a punch and could give a a few in return ! most important he has the heart of a mexican warrior! and that is the x factor! Margarito beat the hell out of Martinez even though he was not as good as he is now but he is 38 yo and he is on a decline! i have never seen Chavez rocked on one punch or any punches ! i've seen him over punched but not battered! I see Martinez and Chavez jr turning this into a war ! but Chavez jr good jab (as he showed last nite) and chin taking it to the last rounds and turning the fight around with a ko on Martinez! and Martinez knows it! he was supposed to enter the ring last nite and claim his so called belt, but after seeing Chavez jr perform he backed out!lol what a puxxy! Jr called him and the rest out and he didnt come up and take the belt or the challenge!

If they fought tonight Martinez by UD. If they fight in another year or two Jr will kill him. Jr is young, strong and big. He is learning how to box effectively, by using his Jab and setting up big shots. His body attack is also increasing. With the power he showed in his last fight anyboby can and will be hurt if he connects. I feel hes learning fast due to hard work and becoming more deadly by picking and placing his shots. Martinez is getting older by the min. He is also south paw. Many believe being southpaw is an advantage. I personally believe its a disadvantage. When facing a deadly right handed fighter, being southpaw only increase that danger for the lefty. Soon Jr will master his craft and through clever managing he will have time to develope into a shining star with a gigantic fan base. Jr has crossover appeal, something no other current mexican fighter has. Mexicans, blacks, whites, puertoricans, and asians all will support Jr. Future middleweight king, Jr is gonna stop Martinez. Jr is to big,to strong for Martinez to ko, once that right hand finds a home side that head and the left hook starts landing on Martinez body, it will be over. Again , now is not the time for that fight. Jr needs more time, another year or two, game over!!!!!!

Other than the prospect of watching Jr being brutally ko'd IDK why anyone would be interested in this fight. That said an ok win for Jr last night but c'mon Manfredo is just an espn fighter even if he usually makes for an entertaining show.

Julio Cesar Chavez is the baddest man on the planet. While Martinez struggled against a part-time Janitor and a 154lb goatfarmer, Chavez has blasted through two world class opponents. I have never seen anyone look as scared as Martinez did at ringside yesterday, he is shook. He knows Chavez would go through his cherrypicking ass in 3 rounds or less, that's why he's been ducking him for two years now.
44 have tried and 44 have failed. Martinez can't be the first, but he could be the next.

Chavez Jr. is not nearly as bad as most people claim him to be.
With that said, he is not a good fighter at all and would lose by KO within 5 rounds.
