Remember when Kellerman criticized Ortiz for quitting in the Maidana fight? Ortiz had a HUGE mouse under his eye and Kellerman ripped him up? It goes to show you should take what commentators say lightly. Because no matter how MANY fights you've seen, seeing and actually DOING are two very different things.
Most of this board, and I include myself, don't know how exhausting it is to make weight, run several miles nearly every single day, work out until you feel queasy and then...having to come home to a...meal you're not looking forward to. It's awful just thinking about it. I don't think Max was hating it, it was just asking the questions in the back of fans' heads. If he did that because he feels Cotto should've kept going in that first fight, then he's crazy...Cotto was ABSOLUTELY done. When you see a fighter retreating into the corner with his arms STRAIGHT DOWN, he doesn't have an ounce of energy left. He's done. And I've said it before and I'll say it again. If Cotto had not taken a knee and retreated into the corner and stood his ground, we were going to see something akin to Pavlik/Taylor I. Cotto trying to raise his arms up and punch after punch after punch breaking through whatever half-assed guard he would be able to put up. Cotto was done in that 11th round.
A lot of people criticized Cotto for quitting against Margarito and criticized Ortiz for "quitting" against Maidana...yet they jumped on the bandwagon after the Ortiz upset over Berto.
And now they're back off it again after the poor showing against Floyd (depending on their take on the sucker punch).
