In the 90th annual WBA convention, we were informed that WBA super bantamweight world champion (in recess) Anselmo “Chemito” Moreno may have his world crown on the line on December 3 in Anaheim, California, when he faces former world champion and current IBO beltholder Vic Darchinyan. After a request by Robert Diaz of Golden Boy Promotions, which now promotes Moreno, the head of the WBA World Championships Committee, Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, is checking with the WBA lawyers about the situation. Moreno was declared “champion in recess” due to an ongoing contractual dispute with his longtime manager Dr. Roberto Grimaldo, which has prevented him from defending. Although the situation between Moreno and Grimaldo continues in the Panama civilian justice system, the WBA could sanction the fight based on the fighter’s right to work
