The part Angulo leaves out is that he stopped taking phone calls from Shaw and Criscio. The relationship fell apart the moment Angulo priced himself out of a gift-wrapped shot at the middleweight title, and neither Shaw or Criscio ever again heard from Angulo.
I'm not here to celebrate Gary's achievements as a promoter, but the man did his job to keep Angulo relevant. He gave him a steady Showtime dates. He compromised his own cozy relationship w/ the network to get Angulo bigger paydays on HBO. He managed to put him in title contention despite never fighting anyone of note at middleweight (if even fighting anyone at all) and still lacking a win that was more relevant than his loss to Cintron.
Angulo's the only one who did a bad job in all of this. Just easy to throw Shaw under the bus since he's not exactly the most popular man in the world among mainstream media.
