Maybe the Mexican-Americans did, but very few in Mexico like De la Hoya. Mexican Americans aren't really rooted for here, there are enough mexican fighters we can cheer for.

My GOD! Why are you so dumb? You are seriously a painfully ****** person! Did you even bother to read the thread question, you know at the top of the page where it says.............................................. ...................................

"Cotto-Margaritto II The Biggest Fight In The History Of Puerto Rico-Mexico Rivalry?"

      Did you?

And you're sitting there talking crap to undisputed?

      FAIL!

Oh and to answer the question, no I believe that Sanchez vs Gomez along with DLH vs Tito were bigger fights.

          All probably bigger.

          Cotto-Margs 1 was bigger.
          .......I agree with this

Margarito and Cotto have been rapped by Pac. That along with other things has taken some shine away from it.

I can see where you going with this though. If Cotto wins by any chance you want to credit him with the biggest PR/Mex fight ever.

Its the backlash from beating an old Chavez. Chavez is loved like no other in Mexico and when Oscar beat him they kind of resented him a bit, but they still watched his fights and when he fought Tito they rooted for Oscar because Tito is a rican and Oscar is still a Mexican American.

Also there are enough Mexicans and Mexican Americans in the U.S. now that you can just capture that fanbase and be more than fine with just that crowd supporting you to where you dont need anyone else.

Im Mexican homie and regardless of how you feel for Oscar there are and were alot of Mexicans too besides the Mexican Americans that rooted for Oscar as well. He was disliked by some and loved by others but regardless we all tuned in to watch him fight and thats the truth.

ODLH vs. Tito was huge. Anybody who followed boxing at the time was looking forward to that fight. Heck, I didn't follow boxing back then and I remember all my family members talking about it day in and day out.

Sánchez/Gómez was bigger when you consider someone that's pure Mexican against a Puerto Rican. There was a lot of hype for it and, at least in Puerto Rico, EVERYBODY was looking forward to it.

Tito/Vargas was also huge. But we can't count that one...since Vargas doesn't have Mexican citizenship. Right, Chicano?

                    So, yeah...it's either Sánchez/Gómez or Tito/ODLH.

Personally, I think in terms of popularity ODLH/Tito wins. In terms of significance (at the time) within hardcore boxing fans...it was Sánchez/Gómez.

And whoever said Cotto-Margarito I was bigger [than the upcoming rematch], that's correct.

Cotto and Margarito were actually feared and highly touted in the welterweight division facing each other to be the king of the division. Margarito was a terminator, Cotto was the undefeated Puerto Rican. But it wasn't very popular or anticipated on a LARGE scale. This was a fight that only the hardcore boxing fans looked forward to.

Based on this rematch......off the top of my head. Sorry, I know you were not directly talking to me but I will give you my opinion either way.
