Another country like America.
Alright, let me break down WHY there has been such a big decline in American boxing, especially in the HW division. A lot of people (Mostly Euro fans that know nothing about sports in America) and claim that it's just that Euro fighters are beating the up and coming fighters even though there haven't been any lol.
There is a reason the American HW rankings look like this:
1. Eddie Chambers (Blown up Cruiserweight)
2. Tony Thompson (40 years old)
3. Lawrence (who? 36 Y.O)
4. Arreola, Once again a guy that could probably make 190 if he wasn't such a fat ass.
5. Holyfield (49 Y.O)
6. Boswell (42 Y.O)
7. Harris (25-15, 35 Y.O)
8. Grant (39 Y.O)
9. Barrett (40 Y.O)
etc.
As you see, the top Americans are a bunch of old guys that are WAAAAY past their prime and a few blown up out of shape cruisers. But what happened to all of the would be HW's?
They're playing other sports, American football, soccer, basketball, baseball, swimming, track and field, the list goes on and on. When these Euro fans hear this they immediately dismiss it as false but it's 100% true and if you keep reading on you'll see why, no bullsh^t here just facts.
Look at the guys in the NBA, or even in college, both in football and basketball. You'll find a bunch of HUGE genetic freaks, these guys are ATHLETES. What is an athlete? An athlete is someone that can adapt to pretty much any sport, an example would be one of boxing's ATG's-Roy Jones Jr. who was a very good basketball player. It's sort of natural ability, these people have certain genetics that allow them to excel in pretty much any sport.
Look at guys like Lebron James, Ben Wallace, Wade, Tony Allen, etc. I can name thousands. Guys in the NFL as well.
Here, go ahead and look at the college roster for basketball, click on any of them and look at how big these guys are:
Sports and school:
Alright PAY ATTENTION here.
Here is how our school system works (For the majority of America):
We have 3 different types of schools
Elementary ages 5-11
Middle School ages 10-14
High School ages 14-18
Understand? Good.
Americans start playing SCHOOL sports when they reach Middle School. If we don't want to play sports we have the option to take Physical Education, Choir, or Band some **** like that.
The BIGGEST most ATHLETIC kids will play Football, Basketball, soccer, track and field etc.
Do they have to pay?
Not really, school sports are pretty much free, you might have to buy some cleats but it isn't a lot of money. I grew up in a poor area, so we had fundraisers for sports, rarely will you have to spend a lot of money on equipment. ANYONE can play sports.
Just how big are Middle School football/basketball/baseball/soccer rosters?
Basketball-Around 10 players
American Football-Probably around 30+ on a roster?
Baseball-around 16
Soccer-around 20? Not really sure
These rosters are split up even more.
They have separate teams, called the A team and the B team. The BEST players will play on the A team, the B team not so much. This is for each of those sports. So multiply those rosters by 2, as a matter of fact multiply that by 4 because they have it for two separate age groups.
Middle school is comprised of the 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade.
High school is comprised of the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade.
So in a middle school there'll usually be 100+ of the school's best athletes playing sports.
In America there are 27,000 public high schools.
Nearly every single one of those high schools has these sports.
And High school is a lot like middle school. The 9th grade has the A/B teams, the 10th-11th grade has something called Junior Varsity, and the BEST players play on Varsity.
It sort of filters out the best of the best players. The Middle school teams that played against each other will later on combine with the other Middle school's roster once they reach high school, all these kids will go to the same school and continue to play the same sports.
You do the math, we've got a BUNCH of people playing sports, these are our best athletes. Like I said, there isn't another country like America when it comes to sports.
Basketball has always been around, you're making stuff up!
Basketball has been around for sometime but it didn't really gain that much fame until Michael Jordan came along, this is the most FAMOUS athlete in all of sports. He forever changed the face of basketball in the 80's and made it one of the most popular sports in America.
Sports salaries:
Basketball players used to play for peanuts compared to today's salaries. Back then Jordan was awed that he was making 2 million per year. 20 years later that is the average salary for an NBA rookie is around a million dollars per year, a million dollars and they haven't played a SINGLE minute of pro ball!
Players even sometime get 10 day contracts, these 10 day contracts are literally worth around 80k which is the bare minimum. One guy named Zach Randolph just got his contract extended for 4 years and $71 million dollars!
Same thing for the NFL and MLB, salaries are pretty damn high.
In the NFL for just being on the practice squad, not even playing, players can earn a minimum of $5,700 per week for just sitting on their asses.
I can go on and on but I think I've made my point pretty clear. We Americans are given WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more opportunities than other countries when it comes to sports. Our best athletes playing these sports, understand?
