PARIS (AFP) — Swiss scientists have placed a major question mark over World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) guidelines for testing for muscle-building male steroids in urine.

The test is all but useless, for it fails to take into account a key genetic variation that hugely affects levels of testosterone found in samples, they say.

Individuals who have this variation are far less likely to breach a WADA threshold that requires closer scrutiny, they add.

The genetic variant is especially widespread among Asians but, at the other end of the scale, hardly present at all among Caucasians or Latin Americans.

In theory, it would give a drugs cheat of, say, Chinese or Japanese ancestry, a massive advantage over someone of European or Mexican ancestry, the lead scientist told AFP.

This is important because this gene variant is relatively prevalent. The researchers note that approximately 2/3 of Asians and 10% of Caucasians carry the gene deletion. That is a big problem for WADA because these athletes could abuse steroids with relative impunity under our current testing regime.

Well they caught the doping Chinese swimmers and they have caught a truck load of Asian athletes doping in all sorts of sports around the world , sound to me like one of those baseless articles that science and medical people put out in obscure journals .

Exactly. Nobody cares if there is testing in boxing or not unless it's Pacquiao specified. Seems the sheep only give a crap if it's asked for and refused. Any fighter could be juicing, but if nobody asks for the tests, nobody cares. The double standard of "don't ask, don't tell" on this board baffles me.

I think its just a specific witchhunt for pac alone. Ts points out a genetic variation in asians but holy **** theres a whole buttload of asian champs right now that most of these guys could care less when theyre fighting let alone if theyre juicing. Nobody cared when bhop refused testng either. Even defended him.
