The only reason why Don King isn't still on top is HBO signed a deal with Golden Boy to give them a mountain of air dates. And that's not only come back to bite them in the butt, it cost the head of their boxing programming his job.

Now that the guy from Showtime has taken over at HBO, he'll employ the model he used at Showtime and just agree to show good fights ... not the fighters of specific promoters.

And Golden Boy will come crashing down. Fighters only sign with them because they have HBO dates.

You can pin this ... without HBO throwing money at them ... they'll file for bankruptcy within three years. Without the dates, they're just a company led by a cross-dressing coke addict. And then all the fighters will start expressing their "true' feelings about Golden Boy.

Damn...that's rough. Who's "the guy from Showtime"?

I think it was Greenburg who bowed out of HBO Sports several months ago. Isn't it run by Taffet now? I could be mistaken.

A few years ago, a friend of mine was going to work as a sparring partner in Europe for one of Don's fighters. His visa was getting held up due to a child support issue, where a woman want X amount of money or she'd file some papers that would keep him from leaving the country.

Don cut him another check for the amount she wanted, no questions asked. Didnt take it out of his pay or ever ask for it back. He was very nice about it and didn't mind helping out.

Now you've heard some kind words about him. Don King is alright with me.

I thought King was grooming his son Carl to take over the business when he's gone. But the way it looks now it looks like he's going to take it with him.

King doesn't enter the ring with any fighter and leave the ring with another in a fight he is promoting. If he has, please let me know ALL those fights when that occurred and I'll be sure to watch them. (Because I've seen them all.)

King is famous for his bragging about coming to the fight with champion Joe Frazier, and leaving with new champion Foreman.

He's also famous for his poisoning of Tyson's original team.

This. Hence why guys like Floyd don't need him. Sanctioning bodies are becoming less relevant. King had nothing to offer Floyd, besides the idea that with King's name attached to Floyd's, he would be making Mike Tyson money.

Supposedly he tried to impress The Klitschko brothers into signing with him, by showing them a lot of cash, and telling them that is their one and only chance to get it, but they didn't bite unlike other Poor, uneducated Up and Coming Fighters. (Sidenote: Delahoya used this trick on Pacquiao, into signing with Goldenboy, and he did while still signed to Top Rank LOL).

In other words, he is a smart hustler but he has lost his commodities like Tyson, and would need another one in order to have any sort of bargaining power, into signing more Big Time fighters. The few fighters that he still does have, get nothing but inactivity, and when they do fight, they get a moderate payday. All he can do at this point, is attract low profile fighters without many Amateur accolades, who may or may not have Talent, into a long term contract and hope that they turn out to be Great.

As far as being an active Promoter like Golden Boy and others, he sucks.

The guy has quite a sick imagination.

One of his articles got around quite a bit on the internet and even Freddie Roach heard about it, and was not happy (he made a joke about him having Parkinson's). That was the one when he claimed that Oscar prepared for the Mayweather fight by chasing chickens, running in speedos, having non-ejaculatory sex, and skinny dipping with his team.

I really do think that sports journalism has gone down with the internet. Anyone can write nowadays. I even read one article where a guy was talking about how Brandon Rios was such a terrible sportsman and went below the belt for making a joke about Antillion having a lisp. WTF? Out of all the offensive trash talk we've heard over the years, you're gonna make a big thing about a fighter talking about another fighter's lisp?
