Pacquiao vs Marquez: Will it save HBO PPV year

HBO have put on two PPV shows recently that have ended in farces. Mayweather vs Ortiz ended when Mayweather decided to sucker punch Ortiz, it left a lot of buyer unhappy and demanding their money back.

Then we had Hopkins vs Dawson which ended in the 2nd round with Dawson lifting up Hopkins by his legs and and throwing him down. Hopkins claiming a damaged shoulder and the ref ruling a TKO.


But HBO year looks to be saved by the Pacquiao vs Marquez III fight.

First of both of these fighter always come to fight, great combination punchers, both can **** and both have solid chins.

Both a clean fighters, no dirty tactics, play acting here, though when a southpaw faces a orthodox fighter, there is an increase chance of a accidental headbutt.

Their past two fights were FOTY quality and two classic fights.

Both have been in good form and looked impressive in their recent fights.


Think we could be in for something special.

If you bought Mayweather vs Ortiz or Hopkins vs Dawson and were disappointed, then don't feel discourage by the farces and make sure you get in on the possible fight of the year.

Cott vs Margarito II should be a top fight too, but if Marquez vs Pacquiao III is a mismatch as you say it is going to be then people won't be so quick to buy Cotto vs Margarito II, especially just before Christmas at a time where money is short.


Here in the UK Sky abandon their PPV coverage because of such poor showings in PPV fights.

PPV is much more established stateside but HBO might have to reconsider what fights they put on PPV, because their customers are not going like being taken for mugs.

I wish HBO and Showtime would abandon PPV too. I'm tired of wasting $60-$70 for a card that only has a 12 minute main event. A sport that's as unpredictable as boxing shouldn't be on PPV, IMO. The customers get screwed way too often.

It was thought that Sky abandoning their PPV package would be a good thing but a new channel Primetime have put some PPV boxing fights on.

After the two Haye fights against Audley and Wlad, Sky decided to pull the plug on PPV.

Boxnation a new channel that has start up that just shows boxing which is free till the end of the year and will just be subscription after that should be great for boxing fans over here.

$60-70 to watch a fight, seems extortionate and they are not even megafights.

It plays a huge part. Especially to HBO subscribers who already pay $15 a month to have the channel. Paying $70 on top of that sucks. Being a fan of Boxing can become very expensive in the US.

I was thinking the same thing too. The undercard for Pac-Marquez looks like it's going to suck. Bradley-Casamayor is such horrible match making. Fight will probably be a one sided snorefest until Bradley win by TD via "accidental" headbutt.

Prescott-Alvarado I'm unsure about. Prescott is very inconsistent and Alvarado has never impressed me. Not really looking foward to this fight.

The only intriguing fight on this entire card is Burgos-Cruz.

At least the Hopkins/Dawson fight was 50/50 and could have went either way. In this bogus fight,Manny is entertaining another catchweight against an older opponent who has showed signs of slipping in his own division a few weightclasses below,let alone showing ANY promise in the welterweight division.. this can be the final nail in the coffin for boxing this year,and worst yet-in front of a million ppv customers and a packed house!

I am in the middle of the Sahara so I wont be buying any of those PPVs but if their is a way I could buy, I would probably bought Floyd-Ortiz, Pac-Jmm3 and Cotto-Margarito...

thinking again with the outrageous prices I would just see them on the Cinema or other cheaper option...
