Floyd-Ortiz PPV numbers being witheld until Mayweather settles IRS problems

What a lot people fail to understand is that boxing is different then football, basketball or baseball....These leagues are under one association and taxes are taken directly from their checks. In boxing you get cut a check without taxes being withheld...That's why a lot of fighters move to Vegas because there is no state tax...So Mayweather gets a percentage of all profits from the fight including concessions, souvenirs ect...so the money keeps coming in long passed the actual fight....So if you get audited next year or 3 years down the road he would have to pay back taxes for the checks that were cut after the fact...Can you dig it!From Heavy D aka Dan Rafeal
"However, HBO can't disclose numbers without consent from the promoter, Golden Boy. And Golden Boy won't disclose the numbers without the approval of Mayweather. From what I understand -- and this is something I thought about not long after the numbers began to take much longer than usual -- the reason for the delay is because Mayweather is finalizing a settlement with the IRS over his tax bill and wants Golden Boy to hold off. Once the tax deal is complete, only then will we hear numbers that will give Mayweather another massive (and taxable) windfall."Comment

So no one has ever heard of this as a reason for delaying any other PPV #s ever, in any sport? And now it's a clever way to avoid paying more taxes? Doesn't make any sense to me.
But then these are the same people that were speculating that PBF didn't want to fight Pac in 2010 for tax reasons. That somehow he would pay so much more in taxes even though the marginal rate in 2011 would be identical to 2010.
Incredibly difficult for me to believe that the IRS has to wait for a public announcement to act. As if they couldn't demand that HBO tell them right away what the amount was for tax purposes or find out how much PBF made directly. Or even that the PPV numbers could be announced and PBF paid at a later time. As if as soon as they're announced he's going to have to pay taxes. Doesn't make any sense.
I still am guessing that it did around 1.1M PPV. But this big delay and now tax explanation are incredibly sketchy.Last edited by Horvo; 10-20-2011, 09:26 PM.Comment

Dude in basketball and football etc also like to play in states with no state tax. Has nothing to do with boxing. What a lot people fail to understand is that boxing is different then football, basketball or baseball....These leagues are under one association and taxes are taken directly from their checks. Definitely not... and I'm surprised... the public seemingly buys crap more than the goods.
Then again... that should be a given.
