Taylor: "I'm going to make Hopkins look his age!"

November 01, 2005 - PRESS RELEASE: With a little over a month to go before the most highly anticipated rematch in years - between undisputed middleweight champion Jermain Taylor and the man he defeated for the title in July, Bernard Hopkins – the champ is working hard in his new training camp in Memphis, Tennessee, and chomping at the bit to step into the ring again with ‘The Executioner’. “I’ve been training hard, I’m already on weight, and I can’t wait to get into the ring,” said the unbeaten Taylor, who moved his camp from Miami to Memphis due to the hurricanes that ravaged South Florida. The 27-year-old champion will be training in a private area at the 6,000 square foot Memphis Police Boxing Gym, located next to door to The Liberty Bowl where the University of Memphis football team plays it's home games, which is approximately 120 miles from his hometown in Little Rock, Arkansas. Needless to say, it’s still Taylor country.

Taylor by UD tis time. I now am a believa that Hopkins is a tough guy that Tayler will have a very difficult time of knockin out. Not only is Hopkins hard to hit, but he takes good punches. Tayler defintely have all ta tools and strenth to win tis by UD.

        hmm

Bingo, and he won the fight. And Hopkins ran for 8 rounds, so he did look his age. This fight will be even worse for Bernard because Taylor has new-found confidence as well as 12 rds experience with Bernard Hopkins, and Hopkins is just that much older now.

Well obviously Taylor doesn't believe he made Hopkins look old in the first fight if he said it again.

Ah, I see. That is arguable, but I concede that Taylor won because at least in part Hopkins is not what he used to be. Prime Hopkins TKO10 Taylor.

Isn't that way too early to be at weight? (which I would guess is around 172-175 in the gym so he can dry out for the 160 weight in).

Which is true but I feel Hopkins still had enough to win the fight and that he stills has enough to beating him in the rematch. Unless Taylor makes some serious changes then I don't see him beating Hopkins this time around.

I don't expect Hopkins to come out and just run through Taylor. However I do expect him to be a little more assertive and win early rounds more convincingly before making his second half charge again.

Taylor needs to land a significant punch before he opens his mouth again.

Taylor was about as hard to watch as John Ruiz in that fight. He did absolutely nothing and won the fight.

I wish it would have been a draw just so I don't have to think about that.
