So I honestly believe it's to make weight. Even guys like Kessler have twig legs. Legs can hold a lot of weight, quads are one of the biggest muscle groups on the body. So that must be the reason.
This, and the fact that boxers have to be light on the feet and slick. I think TS wants boxers have huge muscled legs. In that case it will eventually slow them down by the end of the fight, wear them out.

Depends on the league and level of play. At the highest level, they all have thick quads and hamstrings. Calves not all of them have thick caves. But at the highest level they have thick legs, even Messi for his size.

Not all but many of them. Kickboxing is different, they require more muscle on their legs.

But many boxers have twig legs. Look at Marquez. Don't you think he maximizes his chances to fight at 147 if he had increased the weight on his legs rather than just put on more muscle on his upper body?

I hate to watch a fighter like, say Steven Luevano. Now, those legs are thin. I'm afraid they will break under him at any moment.

What I'm trying to say is punching isnt just an upper body movement it is a full body movement. The power from the punch starts from the ground then travels up and ends through the fist (kinetic linking). If the lower body especially the butt is weak alot of power will be lost in the movement.

But sorry for questioning the sacred training secrets of old boxing trainers.

you should be apologizing for believing so vehemently that you can walk into boxing and overhaul it

people have been boxing for hundreds of years
the training they do is what has worked best

some of the stuff has remained from the start

running hard miles (usually early in the morning, and at a pace higher than a jog) has lasted the test of time

it's you who is ignorant to believe all of those trainers and fighters have been wrong.

and if you want to get into power punching we can

i learned about it in the gym hitting stuff with punches... where did you learn about it?

you generate power by transferring weight

it does not explode from the ground with muscle contractions (simmilar to the way large legs are built)

those sorts of muscles tire easily.

if you hit a heavy bag day after day your legs will get harder/more trim and not larger. they'll probably shrink

to answer your question in the OP
boxers dont have big legs because they do not need them

their leg size is a product of their conditioning and diet.

very few punchers (pacquiao, hamed, tua, tyson) are naturally big legged. these are usually the "explosive" punches

you'll find most naturally gifted punchers have long limbs and have a wide base to transfer the weight (hearns, robinson, foster, arguello)

their longer limbs allow for an easier generation of leverage, and do not rely on large muscle contractions, like the quads and hamstrings (the things you build to increase the size of your legs)

How do I know I'm wrong I presented facts to you about how the body works and about how it would be beneficial.

You on the other hand have done nothing but say Im a dumbass and basically say 'all the boxers do it so it must be right' which is the appeal to the masses fallacy

in short, you dont know what the **** you are talking about
                    you want a shovel?
                    keep on diggin!
Again man I get it you think Im wrong and call me a dumbass good for you. I never said anything disrespectful to you yet you come in here with your holier then thou comments. I used to think you were cool but really you are just as bad as every one else on NSB.

I have boxed for 6 years of my life, and I firmly believe my exploration of other training and conditioning techniques have pushed me to a higher level then if I listened to some of my original trainers. I never assumed anything yet you assume I'm some ******* because I question training techniques.

I know what the **** Iam talking about sorry your old school training methods are behind the times. This the problem with boxing at the amateur level they still rely on these inefficient methods.

I absolutely LOVE this post and that video.

That is the main reason why I believe sprinting intervals is better than simply running billions of miles. No more than 1 mile is necessary. As you are fighting 3 minute intervals. So why not sprint or run at a high tempo for 3 minutes, before walking for 1 minute, 12 times? In a ring your not moderately moving for 30 minutes non stop are you?

Makes more sense right? Same with having a lower body relate to the size of your upper body. Your more likely to perform much better that way without adding useless weight.
