Hopkins vs. Dawson post fight discussion - Please do not make new threads about this.

You must be blind if you think he grabbed his ankle. He stood up while Hopkins was leaning on him. His right hand was against his own body and his left hand touched behind Hop's leg for a split second but was never lifting him. He just stood up like when you do squats while Hop was leaning down on him. If Hop had pulled back his punch like you're supposed to, rather than leave it out to push down on Dawson's back none of this would've happened. It's a common tactic some fighters use to prevent the opponent from slipping/ducking a punch and coming up with a counter. You keep them down in the slip/duck position until the ref breaks it up. Floyd is actually a master of this. Watch what he does anytime someone tried to slip and duck him when he's throwing punches.

This post makes no sense on so many levels 1st off why bring up what Mayweather/Hopkins does as far as leaning on people in a clinch that's just boxing theres nothing wrong with that. As far as if he grabbed him on his ankle or calf it doesn't really matter. I box for real in Amateurs and you can't grab a boxers foot it doesn't matter if it's only for a split second. It's not like you have to grab his leg for a full 5 seconds and carry him around the ring for it to be a foul lol. So anytime I'm losing a match I'll just yank my opponents foot out from underneath him as long as I only grab on for a split second it's ok?

Dawson clearly stated after the fight "no way" would he fight Hopkins again stating that Hopkins would be "4 months older" should a further fight take place, so with the shoe on the other foot Dawson has refused to fight Hopkins again. Based on the fact the referee overruled Hopkins's decision to fight on with one hand (which he clearly stated in the video) the fight should obviously be ruled a no contest (unless boxing has become MMA over night) and Hopkins should retain his belt. Goldenboy's lawyers should see to it. there is video evidence and medical evidence (regarding his shoulder) that the ruling in this fight is not legit

The TKO call was the right call to make because the rules of the (Association of Boxing Commissions) state that if a boxer injures himself by attempting to intentionally foul his opponent then no action would be taken in his favor and the injury would be considered if it was from a fair blow. So this what Hopkins get for fighting dirty. It backfired on him.

This was plainly not the ruling which was handed down, and the argument that Hopkins injured himself as a result of his own fouls is a stretch to say the least. What's more, what Dawson did was clearly outside of the rules. I believe he did it in retaliation, but even if what you say is correct, there is a difference between that and "if a fighter fouls another, prompting the second fighter to retaliate by fouling the first, and the first fighter is injured and can't continue, the second fighter's fouls, being deemed retaliatory, shall be regarded as legal maneuvers."

I understand your argument, and I don't begrudge you raising the point, but I do strongly disagree.

Did you hear Hopkins indicate he wanted a rematch? Don't you think a guy who lost his belt would demand one post-fight? Hopkins wants no part of Dawson.

sounds like angry sarcasm when he says it,they ask hopkins if he can go on and he says with 1 arm yea look at the lump on my shoulder than the ref says that he can't fight. if you want to fight on why are you pointing out the lump on your shoulder to the doctor?
i also feel like bernard quit and thats probably how the ref seen it to and that is probably the reason why he ruled it a tko and if you watch the post fight interview by hopkins there is no mention of him wanting to fight dawson again and at the same time dawson is talking about bernard is *****,he aint no gangsta,i told you he was gonna quit and he also says tell your man to get some heart and bernard let all of that rock so no i don't think he wants anything to do with dawson

Stop trying to twist what happened the doctor asked if he can continue Hopkins said yeah the doctor told him he couldn't. Hopkins didn't quit that is a FACT stop making shyt up.

Bullshit.

Hopkins was doing just fine in the fight with Dawson. Granted it was fairly uneventful, but Hopkins is always a slow starter to begin with. Apart from that he had Dawson fighting his fight, not the other way around. Chad was barely throwing anything at all, and Hopkins was masterful with his footwork, moving to the outside of Chad's lead foot to take away his left hand.

To top it all off, Hopkins clearly told the referee he wanted to continue twice while on the canvas. Go back and watch the video.

He didn't quit, he was fouled, and dislocated his shoulder. Dawson is a punk bitch with a lisp who is actually proud of himself for winning a title on a clear foul.

harold lederman explained this beautifully. At the very least this was an accidental foul and should have been a no decision the same in effect as a no contest, Hopkins retains the belt. IMO Dawson was so worked up he got pissed that Hopkins leaned on him and he lifted him and tossed him down, thats intentional he should have lost.

I hope this gets overturned and Hopkins denies Dawson the rematch, he showed a serious lack of class and looked like a cry baby.
