If Calzaghe fought Froch's recent opponents...

How come? Does it have anything to do with Froch's last fight against Johnson, I think Froch will feel alot more rejuvenated at LHW, I'd still pick Froch to beat Pascal. That post is completely ridiculous.
Johnson knocking him out, Froch destroying him, are you out of your freaking mind. Think you'll find yourself in a minority there.
I'd favour Pascal over Froch in a rematch.
Ward would fair very well, close fight, and Taylor too as he's quite technical. Still likely wins though.
Apart from that, he clearly beats them all.
I'd forgotten our bet though, so with respect I'll pay it in double given the delay...Comment

Calzaghe loses to Froch? Really?
Calzaghe loses to Abraham? Really?
Calzaghe loses to Johnson? Really?
BHop beats all 3 of those guys today, with ease.
I think Calzaghe has some trouble with Dirrell and Ward but he still walks away undefeated. They would have had to come to the UK and there is no way they walk away with a points win unless it's by total domination and we all know Dirrell is mentally weak, so the only real contender is Ward and Ward aint winning in the Millennium Stadium unless he pulls off a masterclass and to be fair, he hasn't been required to show he has that performance in him, maybe Froch shows us more of Ward then we have seen of him so far once their fight is over with.
Write Calslappy off all you want but he did ok. Maybe he wasn't the GOAT but the opposition above are hardly challenging for that spot eitherComment

I'd favor Calzaghe over all of them.
Pascal - Good power and speed and overall has decent skills but hasn't got good stamina at all. The guy was outworked and outboxed by a 46 year old Hopkins. Calzaghe's workrate and speed would overwhelm him.
Calzaghe UD12 Pascal.
Taylor - Similar to Pascal except without as much power. His stamina always lets him down late in fights (eg. Hopkins 1, Pavlik, Froch, etc). Calzaghe would simply outwork Taylor as the fight progressed.
Calzaghe UD12 Taylor.
Dirrell - Very good skills and exceptional handspeed. Uses alot of lateral movement. I think Calzaghe's constant pressure, speed and volume punching would do enough to get Calzaghe a close but clear victory. Dirrell is very hard to look good against but can be outworked. (eg. Froch fight)
Calzaghe SD12 Dirrell.
Kessler - Calzaghe already decisively beat him. Calzaghe UD12.
Abraham - Has one punch KO power and excellent defence. His workrate is dreadful though and he throws wide looping punches. Lesser skilled boxers like Froch were able to take advantage of Abraham's lack of punching technique and low workrate. I could see Calzaghe using his footwork to avoid Abrahams big bombs and use his handspeed and workrate to keep Abraham defensive.
Calzaghe UD12 Abraham.
Johnson - Past his prime but is excellent at cutting off the ring, putting pressure on his opponent and breaking them down with hard shots. Johnson can be outboxed much like he was against Dawson (2nd fight) and Froch. Two fighters who i don't think are as well rounded as Calzaghe was. I personally think Calzaghe is too quick on his feet and with his hands for Johnson to set and get his shots off. Calzaghe would do all his work on the outside and simply outbox him with his superior speed and footwork.
Calzaghe UD12 Johnson.
Calzaghe would also beat both Froch and Ward imo.
Both would be close fights though especially the Ward fight.Last edited by Pugilistic™; 10-11-2011, 01:52 PM.Comment

Calzaghe was a cut above all these guys, except maybe Ward, i think he still beats them all but Ward gives him the most trouble, he was too fast and agile for them, he would just out box Froch but it would have been a good scrap right to the end, Abraham he walks over, i just wish he would have hung about to do this tourney coz he would have won.Comment

Calzaghe would beat all these guys. . . amazing combination of speed, stamina and toughness. . .
Dirrell would give him a bit of problems because of the rangy style he fights, and his speed and reflexes, but joe would adjust, find a way to get in, and pile up the rounds. . .Comment

dirrell has dominated dawson in sparring
now i know, sparring is probabley not that great to compare to, but it can't be completely ignored nietherComment

I think people have forgotten Calzaghe's style.
Stylistically, Calzaghe does not match up well with someone like Dirrell at all. He won't be able to get on the inside and do his slap flurry. His imaginary illusiveness, is non existent because Dirrell fights on the outside using footwork to stay away and using his jab to keep Calzaghe at bay. Then using a right cross every so often when opponents come charging in.
Speed wise. Dirrell's punch + his natural reach is much quicker than any head movement Calzaghe can attempt. So that jab is gonna find it's target frequently from the outside.
Calzaghe won't keep up with Dirrell using technique. He would have to charge in at him. Even then Dirrell is no novice at finding a way to run his ass across the ring.
I don't even like Dirrell but he obviously beats Calzaghe. Style wise. Which is all we can even go off of at this moment. Dirrell is a nightmare for Calzaghe. Period.
Calzaghe is great at fighting stationary targets who are slower than him. Dirrell is faster than him and has a style that Calzaghe simply can't cope with. Calzaghe's best wins are against mid ranged guys, Hell i don't even think he fought a legit opponent with an outside boxing style.
Dirrell beats Calzaghe.Comment
