I'll tell you what - if Calzaghe fought Tarver (in the States, if you want) I'd be willing to gamble 100m on Calzaghe. (Providing I have the points).Comment

Originally posted by Anorak1. Miguel Cotto. A loss waiting to happen, this guy is getting promoted past his ability and won't make it to championship level. (Does winning the vacant WBO belt count as championship level?)
2. Antonio Tarver. Yeah, he did well against a brawler like Johnson and exceptionally well against a shot Roy Jones but this gangly southpaw doesn't really show me anything that proves he belongs in an elite. Put it this way - if Clinton Woods had the chance, I'd be willing to be 20m in points on Woods to take him, as he's a boxer of the same cut, with the same height and so on. If Joe Calzaghe stepped up, I'd go up to 50m in points for Joe to do the job.
3. Joe Calzaghe. The target of much criticism on Da Scene, with Joe's incensed, "all-guns-blazing" style he could have been a big star in America if he'd travelled. While I'd pick him to take out Tarver fairly easily, I'm uncertain as to whether Joe could take on Jeff Lacy at this stage in his career. Guy's getting old.
4. Bernard Hopkins. The guy has been on the skids for at least two years now and is resorting to more and more desperate means to hold onto his title in the ring, including spending longer inactive as his age wears on. Likely to have his title taken off him on the scorecards very soon. Oh wait... that just happened, didn't it?
5. James Toney. A contentious one I just put in for debate. While Toney could arguably be in a top 5 p4p at this moment, he's playing Russian Roulette with his career by mixing it with the big boys. While he's done well against a shot Holyfield and some lesser teir fighters, the crap but still underrated John Ruiz held him to a reasonably competitive match... and that was when Toney was juiced. The guy's got a concrete chin, but I suspect that he may suffer his second career KD sometime during his next three fights.Comment

First off I think a few of you are a bit confused by the term "taken"...
Putting Carlos Maussa or Fernando Vargas down is silly, there is no difference between putting them down or say a guy like Courtney Burton...these guys have been taken...and yes there is no doubt they will be taken again...and again.
My list...
Fernando Montiel...I have benn a hater for a long time and I promise you if he fights Martin Cstillo he will be blown away, almost got what was coming to him this weekend...trust me guys (whoever cares) mortgage your home on it Montiel is going to get beat..
Antonio Tarver...Tarver looked like **** against HArding (both times actually), he looked ordinary against Reggie Johnson...he gets lazy as we all no...his time is coming-Ademank or Briggs, dont no much about them but lets see them get a crack.
Chris Byrd...**** this guy has been taken a few times but somehow the judges just refuse to see it...there isnt a HW in the top 20 that could be dominated by this guy...he is old and is a shell of what he once was...Byrd is a ***** and his time is just about up.
Zab Judah...cant help but think how his legs/chin will react next time he is in the ring with a real tough ass fighter. Sorry Judah fans Corey Spinks just doenst count...you can correct a lot of mistakes in the ring but how do you fix a shaky set of legs? You cant and if Judah steps up in comp he is ready to be had.
Bernard Hopkins...I know he just got beat but he would have been on my list pre-taylor...the guy throws 10 punches a round so whoever is in with him simply needs to be busy...and then the fight will be close (Taylor/Hopkins 1)...He wont come out and jump on Taylor like many are predicting he will wait once again and this time the kid will have much more in the tank down the stretch...Hopkins cant improve much on his last performance....Jermain Taylor can improve 10 fold, youll see.
No arguing, Im never wrong.Comment

Originally posted by AnorakThankyou, sir. I'm sick of hearing how great B-Slop is when, as you rightly say, he's a ten punch a round fighter.
He is a great fighter make no mistake about it...
However he gets a ton of credit during a fight when he is doing nothing and his oppoenent is doing nothing...experts figure it is simply Nard dictating the pace.
Now he is to an extent dictating the pace like he did against Trinidad but in recent fights (Eastman) he would just stand there and take zero chances and his opponent would do the same and people would label him the master.
He is a master but at his age with his style he has been laying out the blueprint to get beat for some time.
He is going to have a tough time improving against Taylor...oh and for those that expect Nard to come out and jump on Taylor...you just dont know Bernard Hopkins.Comment

Toney is overrated these days because he's a fan favorite. Woods is on the up and is really a threat to the 175 crown. Tarver is obviously not an a-level fighter plus he is getting old himself. Cotto has almost tasted defeat in his recent bouts and is not likely to beat the very top guys at 140 (Hatton, Floyd). Hopkins already proved he is ready to be taken but a close fight with a green fighter has some thinking (hoping) he'll get all the belts back for one last hurrah. History argues against it. The man is just flat old.Comment
