1. Miguel Cotto. A loss waiting to happen, this guy is getting promoted past his ability and won't make it to championship level. (Does winning the vacant WBO belt count as championship level?)
2. Antonio Tarver. Yeah, he did well against a brawler like Johnson and exceptionally well against a shot Roy Jones but this gangly southpaw doesn't really show me anything that proves he belongs in an elite. Put it this way - if Clinton Woods had the chance, I'd be willing to be 20m in points on Woods to take him, as he's a boxer of the same cut, with the same height and so on. If Joe Calzaghe stepped up, I'd go up to 50m in points for Joe to do the job.
3. Joe Calzaghe. The target of much criticism on Da Scene, with Joe's incensed, "all-guns-blazing" style he could have been a big star in America if he'd travelled. While I'd pick him to take out Tarver fairly easily, I'm uncertain as to whether Joe could take on Jeff Lacy at this stage in his career. Guy's getting old.
4. Bernard Hopkins. The guy has been on the skids for at least two years now and is resorting to more and more desperate means to hold onto his title in the ring, including spending longer inactive as his age wears on. Likely to have his title taken off him on the scorecards very soon. Oh wait... that just happened, didn't it?
5. James Toney. A contentious one I just put in for debate. While Toney could arguably be in a top 5 p4p at this moment, he's playing Russian Roulette with his career by mixing it with the big boys. While he's done well against a shot Holyfield and some lesser teir fighters, the crap but still underrated John Ruiz held him to a reasonably competitive match... and that was when Toney was juiced. The guy's got a concrete chin, but I suspect that he may suffer his second career KD sometime during his next three fights.
