I don't understand why people in this forum think Pirog is that great. I understand he's a good fighter, but he hasn't accomplished anything. We can all think he'll be the next Marvin Hagler, but until he proves it inside the ring what we think means squat.

I see a lot of guys on this forum saying this is the fight fans want. Really? What fans? The twenty guys in this forum who know who the hell Pirog is. Outside of this forum, the only people who know Pirog are his relatives. So, lets not say this is the fight eveyone wants to see. That's ridiculous. Fact of the matter is is that Sergio Martinez knocks Pirog out and no one will care except the morons in this forum who think this is a super fight.

It's not. Sergio wants to go to the big dance, and that would mean a fight with Cotto, Chavez, Mayweather, Margarito, or Manny. I understand that some of these guys wouldn't face Sergio if their life depended on it, and that Sergio would have to fight the next available guy. But the next available guy isn't Pirog, it 's Sturm and Macklin. And again, Sergio can beat these Euros and nobody will care. But unfortunately for Sergio, that might be his only option.
Its not about thinking Pirog is great. Its that he is the biggest challenge to Sergio at 160.

Based on what? Beating Jacobs? An untested prospect who also had never fought anyone significant.

Don't you think Sturm, who has been champion and fixture for years in the middle weight division and who is ranked number 2 on every middleweight ranking list is more deserving to fight Sergio.

And don't you think that if Sturm is number 2 and that if Macklin by all accounts was robbed of a victory against Sturm that he should also be more deserving.

Just because you beat Jacobs doesn't make you the biggest threat in the middle weight division. You might have all the speed, and power, and skill, but those talents have to be proven inside the ring.

I've seen plenty of talented fighters who have all the skill in the world, but when they face top competition they lose their heads and the fight. Beating Jacobs really proves nothing.

I am not saying Sergio shouldn't fight Pirog, I am saying that it not a neccesity and must see fight. And if I was Sergio Martinez's manager I wouldn't go near Russia unless there is a 4 - 5 miliion dollar purse.

LOL @ everyone demanding Sergio fight Pirog, what has he done to deserve a shot over Macklin or Sturm? This guy is nothing, but a hype job.

There is a 0% chance this fight happens in Russia, period. Russia time zone makes this fight nearly impossible to show live, and no way the legit champ of a division goes half way across the world to fight a fight in a hostile arena in front of sketchy judges.

Maybe he fights Pirgo in America, but there is no way this fight happens if Pirog demands that it takes place in Russia.

Sturm will not fight Sergio in the US or Germany. Macklin did well against Sturm but overall, does he really pose a threat to Sergio? I think Pirog is clearly the best fight out there.

If it's a good number then we got something.

Secondly and more importantly Martinez is the champion, he's a name in worldwide boxing and names just don't go across the world to a nation not known for big boxing events. Say the payday is only a few hundred thousand more, that isn't worth it at all in his eyes. If Russia can come up with a good number, lets get it on but right now there is no evidence of it and to be honest I don't think many believe that it's true. Certainly need more information and in writing.
true, but let me remind you that russia does have a bunch of multi-billionaires, who are spending massive money on soccer, tennis, formula 1 and other sports. so they may as well cough up some pocket change to bring sergio to moscow. the moscow cards are not lame cards actually. they have the best refs and judges in there.

Martinez is calling out better fighters then Pirog and gets no respect. All the ass kicking Martinez has done and gets called everything in the book because he might not face Pirog. He could fight Chavez & Canelo and make a ton more. He can fight Mayweather and make way way more. It's not the money it's what he can add to his resume. What will Pirog do for Martinez at this point? Pirog can fight Vanes, Angulo, Sturm. That's a good starting point

Popularity of Pirog is not the question here, But the challenge he brings. Pirog is a much threat to Maravilla, That's why he should or could take the fight to prove those doubters. And also silence Arum. If Martinez fights Pirog and beats him in Passion. Then he can whine and call on Arum's top dog's for a fight!
