Comments Thread For: Miranda vs Despaigne Close To Done For February

Sources close to the negotiations have advised BoxingScene.com that a deal is very close to being finalized for a light heavyweight rematch between Edison Miranda (34-6, 29KOs) and Yordanis Despaigne (9-1, 4KOs). The rematch will likely take place on a February date at the Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, and ESPN is probably going to televise the bout as part of their Friday Night Fights series.

Was loving that fight before it got stopped... They were going toe to toe and slugging it out... Miranda needed that fight badly after the Bute loss but there wasn't any conclusiveness when he lost by DQ...

I remember him saying that Despaigne was also faking being hurt also... Maybe not top-level guys but a good grudge match

I think its good they fight again, unfinished business! It was indeed a controversal disqualification. Both fighters are not satisfied with the outcome of that first fight.

aside from the low blows Miranda was being hurt by Despaignes' blows and was slowing down and not punching back to any great degree as the bout went on...unless Mirandda takes him early, the 1st 3 rnds, he's out...

for me, Miranda has entered the "gatekeeper" phase of his career

Despaigne was faking it. Yordanis took the b*tch route to a win...it was embarrassing. In my opinion, Despaigne was clearly better than Miranda. There was no need for that approach. (Is there ever?) In the end, maybe it doesn't really matter all that much; Yordanis doesn't appear capable of becoming anything great.

I agree. Edison's career has really dulled. He's officially entered "faded" mode....

A win over Despaigne can revive Miranda's faltering career. I've followed Miranda for years and win or lose he's always in entertaining fights; I'lll support him until the day he retires...

Agreed. Edison is entertaining. But, judging from the way he looked against Despaigne, his career is headed inexorably for the cellar.
