My "favorite" fighters make ridiculous amounts of money while they're active. That money should be enough to take care of that stuff, however, most of them continue to live their life to the fullest outside of the ring and squander it away. I feel worse for previous generations who did this sport for fractions of what todays fighters make.

        you can

engage in wars, try to make your countrymen proud, fight with pride and run a high risk of suffering disabling illnesses or even death. To obtain glory.
guys like Gatti, Morales ,Duran , Hearns ,Pacquiao

Or you can fight conservatively and self preserving and possibly enjoy life after boxing...,but you probably won't obtain as much glory or be as loved as their fellow warrior counterparts. Some examples of these type of fighters are
Sweet pea, Mayweather , Ward , Lopez etc

......I don't see why anyone is turning this into an anti-Mayweather thing...
        other boxers have done it

i have no sympathy for overpaid athletes... ideally, the boxing public PAYS them to entertain us... but lately, we've been made fools.

they make MILLIONS, there are expectations that come with that.

          • hyping up a fight, only to put everyone asleep... not gonna cut it.
          • suckerpunch robbing the fans of a great fight... not gonna cut it.
          • fighting undeserving opponents for bogus belts... not gonna cut it.
          • excessive glove touching and niceties... not gonna cut it.

floyd & pac have been sitting pretty collecting their checks... sadly, the small number of true fans who actually boycott the ppvs DONT compare to the millions of casual fans who fall for the hype.

self preservation is nice and all... but this is the FIGHT GAME right??? fighting is part of the job description...

you are right but why the hell are you supporting him for having a legit excuse to be a coward? he's wasting your money and doesnt give a **** about you.

I wish he had a warriors mentality then the rest of the world would pay to see him win not lose. Once he loses nobody will give a flying **** about him thats the problem.

self-preservation in the ring is fine, but avoiding and ducking dangerous fights is unforgivable...

self preservation comes first, preservation of undefeated status probably a very close second to the first

Yes we know self preservation is important that is why every boxer learns to defend themselves with defense. Your as prepared as you can be when you step in the ring Floyd.

But then its time to get it on and fight, the best fighters out there. That is what boxers do, who want a legacy in the sport theres no escaping that. Your resume and the choices you made in the sport made people believe you didnt care about legacy, so boxing historians will judge you accordingly.

But with your dedication to defense you not getting hurt takes care of itself.
