From what I have read so far, I have come to the conclusion that Cotto's main reason for the move is due to his conditioning. It does not take an expert/trainer to know what Cotto needs to do in this fight boxing wise. 1-Clinch more 2-Set up left hook to the body. 3-Jab, jab, jab. I think Cotto made a switch to this guy based on his education, hoping to get a conditioning benefit from a boxing perspective.

Right on the money....Cotto is a veteran and knows what he does well and what not. From what I have read so far, I have come to the conclusion that Cotto's main reason for the move is due to his conditioning. But this fight is about conditioning, being able to keep up with that relentless pace, both physically and mentally.Comment

this is true, but a good trainer will be their to tel him his mistakes hope benitez is this type of trainer and not a yea man...For Cotto, at this point in his veteran career, a trainer is just a mere figure in training camp. Yes the trainer orchestrates things to a certain degree but Cotto has been in the sport long enough to know what's required to obtain the victory.
Not to mention, Cotto has been known to be the real guy in charge during his training camps. He'll be fine.Comment

We may have to dig deeper. Some trainers are overrated IMHO, they have one or two high profile fighters who excel based on other gifts and need just a bit of guidance to be great.
We'll have to wait and see how it goes. But Cotto taking his shoes off as a result of a direct command by the new trainer is a good thing, he may be showing true interest in fixing his flaws.Comment

He didn't throw it because it wasn't there. Margarito tucks his elbows into his ribs and picks off hooks to the body. Cotto's body assault is vicious, but it's one dimensional.Throw the right hand? He needs to emphasize on throwing the left hook to the body against Margarito. I dont recall him doing that in the first fight that much if at all. Its definitely his most effective punch. He should've gotten Barrera's trainer Rudy Perez. That wouldve been interesting
We've seen Margarito hurt from body shots against Mosley and Pac...and what punches were they that did the damage? Straight right from Mosley, straight left from Pac, both to the midsection. If Cotto can get a jab to the body going and land a few straight rights to the midsection, that will be the body attack he needs.Comment

Agree, like Floyd's underrated straight to the body.He didn't throw it because it wasn't there. Margarito tucks his elbows into his ribs and picks off hooks to the body. Cotto's body assault is vicious, but it's one dimensional.

I talk to some people, and this marriage was cooking up since Cotto left his uncle. He and and Diaz know each other for quite a while now.
Also Diaz told Cotto, that this was Cotto's biggest fight, and a career defining, and if he somw how see Cotto halfassing things, hell just quit as a trainer.
Apparently Cotto respects this guy a lot and the guy is very serious!!
Part of the strategy apparently is a double jab, followed by a straight right down the pipe to the body, and the turn MArgo instead of moving backwards.
I hope this goes well!!Comment
