It's stated in the article that Gamache was pretty much a late volunteer to work in Barker's corner who asked for his help the week of the fight. He's more involved with Andy Lee who is one of the candidates for the next shot at Martinez.

I think one of the reasons that Gamache may have taken the job was to get a good look at Martinez and any possible weaknesses that they could use against him.

could be, but i think if anything, dibella matches up macklin against martinez, not lee. idk, i just don't see that fight happening (martinez/lee)

I remember some people saying hopkins showed his age against Keith Holmes (also at age 36), which he won rather easily but didn't look pretty doing it. Then in his next fight of course went on to put on a masterful performance against Trinidad.

So yeah, I take that with a grain of salt.

This was probably the worst I'd seen Martinez since his his rise up the ranks. The scorecards don't really tell the story of the fight. To his credit though, Martinez toughed it out and got the W. But it's pretty clear he either had an off night or simply doesn't fight as good without having enough space, and his having his hands down didn't help the cause either as Barker began landing jabs and 1-2s pretty frequently in the middle rounds.

This is funny. The corner man is basically discrediting his fighter Darren Barker for putting up a good effort against one of the best fighters in the sport. Martinez KO'd this guy who broke his nose and was mostly on defense using a good jab. What's up with Boxing fans nowadays? Martinez took care of business and I'm sure whoever he fights next will get beat as well. Just because a fighter has difficulty in the ring against a fighter don't make him a bad fighter ESPECIALLY when he adjusted and got the KO.

This was probably the worst Sergio Martinez I've seen. It's either father time finally caught up, or he just had a bad night. Martinez's timing is usually spot on, but for the Barker fight it was way off. And that's usually one of the things that goes first, it's your timing.

Martinez also never got his timing back in this fight, he just started throwing punches like crazy and gutted it out.

Prime Tarver? Haha. People who don't know about boxing should be banned for dumb comments. Tarver was light heavyweight; Martinez is a middle weight. In what world do you see these two fighting each other.

I think Barker was game that night and Sergio was in a tough fight he still got the knockout only real champions get those victories. So I say this guy is in his prime it doesn't matter whose in front of this guy you better be ready to fight because he is.He reminds me Joe Calzaghe but with more pop in his punches just knows how to win fights.
