The Maussa fight is a bargaining chip for Ricky, something to help him secure a fight with Cotto or Mayweather.

Apparently (according to Hatton's website forum) Mayweather will be ringside in Sheffield for Hatton vs Maussa, which may mean that Mayweather vs Mitchell is a one off.

PBF should TKO him at this point in both of their careers and I would be disappointed in any other result from PBF.

        hmm

Floyd and Hatton better find a way to fight each other or they're both lame in my book. That is, unless they somehow fight even bigger names/threats. Even then though I'd still be upset a bit.

There is no reason for 8 ppl on this poll to say Floyd by KO other than that they just love Mayweather's balls to death. Floyd has never fought at 147. Floyd is significantly smaller than Mitchell. Mitchell is old and may well be done but he isn't gonna get KO'd by Floyd. Perhaps a TKO, but even that is unlikely.

        Floyd UD Mitchell.

You know, I might have a bet on Mitchell when it comes off just for the upset value. Knock it all you want, I made £100 on Kevin McBride...

Don't bash Floyd too much for this fight, it was getting late and he had no other options after the fights with Zab and Winky fell through (if they were even going to happen, which is doubtful).

Ricky this year was never in the cards. People are fooling themselves if they think that there was a chance of that happening. No way is Hatton going to have his first fight after Kostya be against Floyd. No way.

If either of these guys backs out of a bout in '06, then you can insult them all you want. Fact is that these fights should be a tune-up for a match that should happen sometime in the spring next year.

Wouldn't it have been wiser for Floyd to take a defence at 140 though? Any Champion fighting a non title fight just seems crazy. I'm sure someone like Junior Witter would've loved a crack at Floyd.

Agreed... And Witter is Mayweather's WBC mandatory.

Is it too early to start calling him Avoid Mayweather?

This is where Floyd's stubborness gets in the way. Junior is pretty stubborn himself and would have driven a hard bargain, and it was easier to go with a guy that would agree to softer terms.

As for why the fight's at 147, I think Sharmba showed up in the picture when the negotiations with Zab were on. Why that is, I don't know, but when he had to put a fight together quick the first overtures had already been done and it was a simple matter of filling in the details. That's the way it seems, anyway, but who knows when it comes to boxing.

PBF will get bashed more for fighting Witter, maybe not in UK. Mitchell is the bigger name & the tougher fight.
