Serg is playing you all. He has to if he wants a major fight. Seems like he's already fooled basic forum nerds, now if he only fooled the dim witted fraidy cat boxing "champions". Just watch

Who was the best jr. middleweight, Paul Williams? Honestly, I believe Sergio is overrated because of who he has fought, let me explain.

Williams was one of the most overrated fighters that I have seen in my lifetime. And my opinion is that he should not have been on anyone's best P4P list and should have been on everyone's most overrated list. And it was easy for me to see just how overrated he was. Because all I had to do was watch him fight.

As we all know Sergio also beat Pavlik. And I was a huge fan of the Ghost. But, I am also a realist and understand that Pavlik was a limited fighter who did really well with the skills that God gave him. With that said Pavlik was still able to give Sergio hell for four rounds until the cuts took him out of the fight, of course Sergio also helped to take him out of the fight. But, I have to wonder what may of happened if Pavlik had not been cut.

Then Sergio fights Dzinziruk and other than Santos I really know nothing about any other fighter on his resume before Sergio. And it was beyond obvious to me that he was no where near as good as his unbeaten and title fight record would indicate when he fought Sergio.

And then we have tonight. And I have already read where Sergio only fought to the level of his competition. I also heard someone on HBO claim Sergio really did not train that hard. Which I personally think is an absolute load of crap. I simply believe that it was a matter of Barker being a much better fighter than anyone realized, at least on this side of the Atlantic, and it was also a matter of Sergio not being as good as most believe. With that said. I still like Sergio and still consider myself a fan. But, as I stated earlier I am also a realist and still believe him to be overrated.

In closing I would like to talk about a little pet peeve of mine. And just so no one takes this the wrong way I want to state that I believe it is an absolute wonderful and honorable thing that Sergio was doing with that young lady who was being bullied. With that being said. Unless I missed part of the HBO broadcast tonight I now know more about a 13 year young lady by the name of Monique McClain than I do about a boxer named Darren Barker.

Again, please no one take this the wrong way and Sergio really should be commended for his efforts with his cause against bullying. But, come on doesn't his opponent, who was actually in the ring doing the fighting, deserve a little more attention then a fifteen second clip of him fighting some Italian dude, or I am mistaken?

It absolutely bugs me when a guys accomplishments get panned & slighted. U forget that Serg started fighting @15. The man is 36 yrs old. He really is a career wwelter who recently grew into jmw & fights between there & MW. He beat kermit cintron 3 diff ways in one night & was given a draw. He fought P will (who no one else would fight) on short notice & was robbed in the 1st fight. & sparked him in the 2nd. So that 2 vickies on a guy most fighters in 2 divs avoided. Then he beat the recognized MW champ Then Dzizurik. He looked sensational in just about every fight. Barker came into this bought w/ a very concentrated game plan that did not involve offense. He he serg more than usual. But sergio has always been hittable. His entire offense is predicated on luring opps to reach & try to hit his unprotected head then spring into attack w/ lightning counters. Barker took care not to reach or really try to hit SM unless in very close range...It was a wrinkle SM did not seem to have anticipated.

In the past Serg has shown the ability to adjust & follow a superior gameplan to beat opps. As well to show skills we hadn't seen from him in previous fights. To say he is overrated is shortsighted. Barker gave a better acct of himself than expected...kudos. But serg came from having a broken nose to basically fighting the MW vesion of pac/vs clottey....to winning by ko. I firmly firmly believe had Barker oppened up & looked to score....he would've been ended by rd 6-7....no question. He was the equivalent of a team slowing a basketball game down to half court games so not to get a high flying/high octane team going. The whole point was to extend the fight to be there at the end. But the state of barkers face tells the story (and he was DEFENSIVE the entire night)

w/ all that said no question he desrves his space as 3rd best in the world. Both floyd & pac have looked mediocre in fights & it doesn't change there status or rating. Sometimes opps have a style that makes another's look bad...plus..wuts wrong w/ a competative fight. These are pros...it's supposed to be competative. & if u think serg is overrated...tell me who u think will beat him from 54-60....Most likely I'd disagree. I could see pirog's style as a problem...but unlike his 19 or 20 opps serg hits back....hard. def not the same. Sturm should have the style pedigree & exp but He seems to be lacking desire these days...who else?

See..,, weighed 165 on fight night which would have been 20 lbs heavier than Pacquiao and 15 pounds heavier than Mayweather. Sergio can't hardly handle guys his size, no way in hell will he have the balls to go get BHop like Oscar did. And whether it's Cotto, Margarito, Mayweather, or Pacquiao, those are fights Sergio out weighs them all by more than 12-15 pounds on fight night. That's BS. Stay there and struggle with guys your size, or grow a pair and go fight some old legend named Bernard Hopkins.

First off cotto and Margarito are both jr.middleweights and come in on fight night at 165 the same weight as Martinez tonight. Second off 99% of the guys at middleweight are 6ft-6'1 so they are actually bigger than Martinez because Martinez is 5'10. Thirdly Martinez wants Floyd at 54 Sergio's natural weight, Ugly boy Maynever went up to fight Oscar at 54 why not the number 2 pound for pounder right now Martinez???????? fourthly are you trying to say that maynever should duck and dodge Martinez because he's a little bigger than him??????? And lastly Floyd idiot, why don't Maynever grow some balls and fight Hopkins since he says that he is the greatest fighter of all time??????????????

I don't put Vera and Barker even remotely close to the same level. Martinez would beat Lee no quams about it. Barker isn't the goat farmer mushacolonstain hoped he would be. funny you call the 19-5 (12 ko) a "contender", yet the 23-0 (14 ko) fighter is in your words, "a bum"

I'd love for you to provide a simple, lamen's answer to that one.

Actually Margarito & cotto all weigh around the same wt on fight night....Victor ortiz just weighed in 2 lbs heavier vs floyd...SM is only 5'10. He was smaller than barker..smaller than chavez jr....smaller than cintron...pavlik...pirog....I'm confused about ur point....Floyd & pac are both slight & small men. 5'8 & 5'6.5 respectively. Martinez really isn't a MW...he's just better than everybody else there.
