Dude, we're talking about a a 154 primed Winky, who had a less than 50% KO ratio and couldn't stop lesser fighters than Martinez.

    STFU

So we're talking about a current 160 pound version of Martinez... but a 154 pound Winky. The Winky that fought Trinidad is the same one that fought Taylor. You have no leg to stand on, so get your crutches.

If we are clear that we are talking about a "prime" Winky...2005 version at worst, then maybe. If Winky fought him today, he gets sonned.

I know right? This just means that people know and acknowledge that Martinez is far from average and that anything short of a sheer "Taxed that ass" performance, is going to be questioned...not such a bad thing in one regard.

Completely agree. Martinez has no answer for someone not frustrated by his jab and off angle punches.

didn't need the Barker performance to tell us that
prime Winky goes through Martinez easily
his jab would neutralize Martinez' speed
and Martinez wouldn't get to Winky with anything clean

You obviously never saw him in his "prime". He was most noted for his defence and his lack of KO power.

The man has 2 notable wins in 52 fights. That's the real story.

Finding a way to win against guys who are basically club fighters is NOT impressive.

We can all attempt to hype up Darren Barker, or we can attempt to say that Martinez didn't prepare for the fight against Barker.

The fact is, Martinez got exposed for being limited against someone who didn't get overzealous with their offense. Barker, however limited he was, showed us that a counterpuncher could frustrate the counterpuncher.

Its the same thing that happened to Marquez when he faced Mayweather, except on a much lesser level, but the model is the same.

Martinez is only effective if his opponent throws so much that they can be timed and countered. Its how he beat Pavlik and its how he beat Williams. He timed them because they stalked him in a plodder's fashion. They didn't try to box him. Well ... Pavlik did for the first half of the fight, but then he began just trying to land after the first half.

Barker, also a plodder, was able to to make Martinez look like he wasn't special at all. His performance was a lot like Clottey's against Pacquiao, but Barker doesn't have Clottey's gifts. However, Barker landed at a higher percentage than Clottey did. He also landed at a higher percentage than Martinez did.

Barker is awkward and uncoordinated. He also has little power but was able to land on the button often enough to frustrate and halt Sergio's attacks.

If someone of Barker's caliber could do this to Martinez, someone of Winky's caliber would enjoy A LOT of success.

Unfortunately on this site, many poster's idea of boxing is constantly attacking. Boxing is SO MUCH DEEPER than that. Its timing, distance, angles, speed and accuracy. Barker only had timing and distance on his side, but it was enough to frustrate a man called the #3 boxer out there today. That's VERY telling.

This is what happens when you hail a guy as #3 after only two wins over guys who have been already exposed in recent years.

                      Sound familiar, *******s?
