Cunningham: “Weapons Are Oiled, I’m Ready to Go to War”

IBF Cruiserweight Champion Steve Cunningham (24-2, 12 KOs) is “ready to go to war on Saturday night” when he clashes with Yoan Pablo Hernandez (24-1, 13 KOs) in Neubrandenburg, Germany. The 35-year-old American voiced his confidence today during the final press conference in a redesigned church. “I have followed his career for a long time. Hernandez is one of the top cruiserweights and a very strong opponent. But I have defeated all reigning cruiserweights champions and I will clinch another victory on Saturday night. The weapons are oiled and I am ready to go to war.”

Hernandez, who became the WBA Interim Cruiserweight Champion in February when he stopped Steve Herelius, is looking forward to Saturday night. “Cunningham is good, I know what he did to my training partner and stablemate Marco Huck. Saturday will be time for revenge. I have a lot of respect for him but I am ready to become world champion.”

      Sylvester-Proksa Presser Notes from Germany

Former IBF Middleweight Champion Sebastian Sylvester (34-4-1, 16 KOs) and unbeaten Polish prospect Grzegorz Proksa (25-0, 18 KOs) faced the media today during a press conference at Berlin´s Max-Schmeling-Gym. They will collide in Neubrandenburg on October 1 with the vacant European Middleweight Title on the line. “I know that my name might not yet be known around the globe,” Proksa said. “But this will change on October 1. Everybody will know my name after I have defeated Sylvester.” Added his manager Krzysztof Zbarski: “Nobody wanted to fight against Proksa anymore. He is a southpaw, unbeaten, he is fast and he has made all of professional fights on the road. We were very surprised when we heard that Sylvester was brave enough to get in the ring with him.”

Kalle Sauerland was unimpressed by Team Proksa´s remarks. “Even though Proksa has fought on the road and is unbeaten, he has never been up against a crowd like in Neubrandenburg. It will be a great fight and Sebastian will win.” The Hurricane is eager to return to wining ways after losing his title against Daniel Geale on May 7. “The European title will put me back in line for another shot at the world title,” he stated. “I have something to prove and I am ready to make a strong comeback. Proksa can expect a hell of a fight. He better be ready.”

I havent seen Proksa either. Sylvester always comes to fight and he is hittable. He might be a bit ringworn though. I look forward to that as well, but not as much as Cunningham-Hernandez.

His best win so far. Awkward unusual style, fun to watch.

Murat vs Campillo starts in around 3 hours. German tv channel ARD broadcasts Slyvester vs Proksa live from 11:15 PM CET on (should start around 11:30) and shows a replay of Cunningham-Hernandez afterwards.

The three main events should be starting in just over three hours. Perhaps someone will do a round-by-round in this thread.

The first of the three undercard fights will be starting soon.

Promising young heavyweight Edmund Gerber is on the undercard, but his opponent isn't very good, Yohan Banks.

Up-and-coming light heavyweight Dustin Dirks is fighting as well, but against an similar poor-quality opponent, Parfait Tindani.

However, Henry Weber (14-0) is in with a tough, experienced journeyman in Stjepan Bozic (24-5).

              Here's the card:

If we are going to do the RBR on the whole card in this thread I hope there wont be spoilers on the Hernandez-Cunningham fight................

Does anyone have a link? Points will be given. My prediction on the fights.

Proksa will win via close decision.

Cunningham will struggle early with hernandez, but will ultimately break him down technically and will stop him on a TKO in the 11th.

The next will be the most onesided of them all, Campillo will batter Murat into submssion and will stop him on punch accumulation late.
