Chavez is underrated and only barely has he gotten some of his just due.
Many people only know the end of his career but never had the privelege to see him fight in his prime. This man was an offensive technician that all fighters could take notes from.
Some people just think he was a brawler but thats the farthest thing from the truth.
The way he would constantly switch his hands inside depending on his position was like he was programmed. He had an awesome lead right hand where he would lean in close the distance and fire it then follow it up with what straight left hand. It was like he went southpaw without switching stance. He was a very smart thinking fighter and any real student of the game can see the brilliance he employed. Thats not even counting his acclaimed left hook. The man was a machine, with a lot of offensive and yes believe it or not defensive wisdom. He just didnt employ it by going back but by coming forward.

I think some people overrate him and some underrate him, but that's true for all the greats
Ultimate mentioned his technique, and I can't avoid but agreeing. The rosario fight is an amazing display of it
Let's put it this way:
If you think that his 100 victories don't mean much because his record is seriously padded (and I agree), just suppose he had only 50 fights. Imagine the 1st taylor fight was not stopped (which I think should have been the case), he still destroyed a great fighter and won the rematch big time, suppose the first opponent he cant overcome is a prime whitaker. so what? it took whitaker to be in a ring with chavez without getting hurt? that sounds great to me... he was a GREAT fighter. If someone overlooks him it's because his style is not flashy, he is not a one punch KO artist, or because he has had too many worshipping fans.
Lets see hear dont get me wrong I love anyone who loves boxing but yesterday you needed feedback on Roy Jones who dominated throughout the 90's because you were really to young to know anything about his prime...
AND...
Today you are proclaiming that Julio Ceasar Chavez (a universally recognized all time great) who's prime took place a decade before Jones's in the 80's is "very underrated"...
How the hell is JC Superstar (the fighter in which most hispanic champions are measure) underrated? Who else do you know that goes on a 10 fight farewell tour 2 decades past his prime?
i THINK ur talking about the other The_Greatest...there are 3 in this forum so u r confused, ive never talked about jones in this forum, although i do like him and think he is a great fighter. anyway..
