He's full of shit , that muthafucker! he first said he didn't say fight and now he said he did, I can hear it in his voice that he's a fan of Mayweather.we knew he was always against Mexican fighters because we own the ricans, but I never thought he'd go as far as ruin a fight that was starting to get interesting and maybe a fight of the year candidate . truthfully it was Ortiz fault since he started everything but that piece of shit ref had alot to do with the outcome.

He pretty much repeated exactly what he said in the article in this interview.
That "He didn't actually say fight but he motioned them to fight with his hands" which all fighters know mean's continue. That's what he said before, he hasn't changed his stance what so ever.
Even though he actually did tell them to fight but that's neither here nor there.Comment

it makes me sick to know this man is my race.... On top of that you dont just use hand signals when time is called, and your job is to seperate both men before you call time in neither of that happend.
Cortez is just covering his own ass from his own **** up and he knows it.... and whats even crazier he tells LA times that he never told them to fight, and his mother passes away the same ****ing night, was Cortez even in the ****ing building when the fight went down?
How could Nevada allow him to continue as the ring official for that fight knowing his mother is sick and on her death bed and could go at any moment?Comment

LOL @ Joe Cortez. Sounds like he rehearsed his lines all night before his "big" interview.
The man just makes me sick. He said he tells refs all around the world "Be on your toes and be sharp at all times".
Even a blind man could see that Cortez had NO ****ing clue of what had just occured in the ring. I guarantee you he didn't even know what really happened until he finally saw the replay.
I think it would have been better for Joe to just be honest after the incident.
Larry Merchant: "Joe - real quick, let's get your thoughts on what just happened."
Joe Cortez: "Well we're gonna have to look at the replay there Larry, cause I haven't got a damn clue what just happened."
Atleast he wouldn't look and sound like a lost man in the desert, thinking about a glass of water. His 'reffing seminars' probably have a title similar to this - "How to make the 3rd man in the ring the most IMPORTANT man in the fight".... in 2 easy lessons.Comment

He just confirmed that he didn't use a verbal instruction when he signaled the boxers to commence the bout.
Quote, "Now, I gave my hand my hand signal to commence the bout. When I give my hand signal, I don't have to say it verbally.....I could give a hand signal to resume the contest. Well, I looked at the timekeeper just to make sure that the clock is running...that I already gave the signal....."
So what is the significance of this statement.
Let's start with the given.
1) It confirms that there was no verbal instruction given. Instead, it was a hand signal.
2) After giving the hand signal, he took away his attention from the boxers and looked at the timekeeper to make sure that clock is running.
3) It showed that he was not sure that the clock was running.
4) The hand signal came before he made sure that the clock was running.
From Cortez's own account, it is possible that the time keeper had not started the clock. He might not have notice the hand signal, or like Ortiz, was not paying attention.
Until now, there has been no clarification regarding this matter. If the clock was not running then this whole fiasco should be declared a NC.Comment
