but htat was a horrible stoppage way to early
you can tell the ref took a nice cash deposit from Golden Boy to end the fight if gomez was staggered
looked to me like gomez may have gotten a nice bonus too. He took harder shots from alvarez and walked right through it and gets rocked by an uppercut that wasnt even thrown with power. unless he got something in his eye he took a dive.

Gomez didn't see that uppercut though, and the punches you don't see are the ones that hurt you, it wasn't a dive. And Canelo wasn't messing around, he is a counterpuncher first and foremost, he doesn't generally open up much unless his opponents pull a turtle defense job, which his last three opponents did. This is the style you see from him when he fights an opponent that actually comes to win and throw punches. Gomez was confusing him with his skillful pressure and upper body movement, primarily frustrating him simply by leading with his jab. Canelo's recourse was to look for big shots and try to defend against Gomez's barrages with that awkward looking shoulder roll. Luckily for Canelo, he has that power to get him out of trouble, and having a friendly ref and judges don't hurt either.

I dont get why he was trying the shoulder roll so much when it wasn't working, I mean yeah if your comfortable try things but he kept getting caught, what was the point in keep doing something that he clearly can't do naturally yet when it wasn't working?

it wasn't just an uppercut, it was also a straight solid shot to gomez's face that blew him away. Tell it like it is.
