  • Comments Thread For: Antonio Margarito: I'll Jump on Cotto, Finish Him Quicker

Antonio Margarito expects to dispose of Miguel Cotto quicker this time around in their Dec. 3 rematch compared to when he faced Cotto the first time in 2008 and stopped him in 11 rounds. Margarito wants to “jump on him right from the beginning,” he told BoxingScene.com during a recent press conference to hype the rematch and believes the added weight of their fight will only help him. I agree, the added weight is to the advantage of Margarito. Just as I have been saying all along, Margarito will jump on Cotto from the start. He will pressure Cotto incessantly.

That or his unexplainable decrease in power will just carry over to this fight too.

Don't think so unless he carelessly wastes his energy in the early rounds which would give Cotto a great chance at knocking him out aswell. Neither Margarito or Cotto are one punch knockout art artists. They're fighters who break down their opponents.

I believe him. Against Pac he took the beating of a lifetime and kept on walking forward. This guy is almost impossible to stop. I'm still surprised Cotto went this route so early instead of fighting guys like Berto and Ortiz at WW or Canelo. This fight was always gonna be there...

I guess the best thing he has going for him is Marg will most likely be slower. With 10 ounce gloves though Cotto isn't going to hurt this guy. So he'll have to outbox Marg over 12 rounds. Will Steward get Cotto to clinch? I doubt it.

I suppose Cotto is the one to tell us for sure. Someone needs to ask him the question after the fight (win or lose) - "Did Margarito's shots feel any "firmer" when you first fought him to how they felt tonight?"
