Joe Cortez Was Lenient/Merciful. Ortiz is Lucky!

The order of things is 1.) warnings(sometimes several), 2.) points deducted(sometimes several), and finally 3.) disqualification. Rarely is this order interrupted. So no, I do not think Cortez went above and beyond in terms of graciousness. Furthermore, considering the messy way he handled the actual deductions and bringing the fighters back to scratch.. I think the last thing Cortez has earned is any sort of praise. IMO

Your above order is normally true. But according to the rules of boxing, it's the referree's discretion on if/when he wants to DQ a fighter for fouls. Cortez does not have to follow the order above. If it's a foul, any referree can DQ a boxer at their discretion. Cortez was merciful in not doing so...
