  • The Reason Garcia is Complaining About Mayweather's Elbow

Victor's best punches are his right hook followed by the right uppercut. He's used that combination to drop Berto, Maidana, and many more fighters.

When Mayweather's extends his left elbow, it's to stop his opponent from landing the overhand right and uppercut. See how many times Mayweather blocked Mosley, Hatton, Marquez, Baldomir, Corley, and Judah from throwing their overhand right with his elbow. The same applies with blocking uppercuts.

Garcia knows what Victor's best combination is (Right Hook followed by Right Uppercut). He knows that as long as Mayweather extends his elbow, Ortiz doesn't have a chance at landing his most utilized combination leaving Victor's chance of victory, slim to none.

In my opinion, since Mayweather uses his elbow as a means of defense and separation (holding is illegal in boxing), the elbow is perfectly legal. On the other hand if Mayweather his striking his opponent with elbow like strikes used in MMA, than Garcia's concern is justifyable. But Mayweather's elbow's aren't used in that manner, making his defense perfectly legal.

watching that clip really makes you concerned about Cortez being the referree. You can see that Ortiz's inside game is excellent, especially with that uppercut. I really hope Cortez doesn't fuck this **** up.

Using your elbows to seperate yourself from your opponent is not legal. It's the reason Garcia brought it up.

And ppl say he has no inside game
Granted he's looking for wild exchanges but still he has to try to let his punches go and land anywhere he can the more times he touches floyd the better chance he has at his power slowing him down his body is the key
Cortez was chosen for this fight for a reason floyd has final say in that

using an elbow/forearm on the opponents chest to create distance is not illegal. Stuffing them in an opponents' face is.

the elbow is not legal, you're supposed to fight out of a clinch or have the ref separate you.....

mayweather uses the elbow and forearm to the throat constantly, which is totally illegal, and takes away the target area by turing his back or bending too low which leave no legal area to hit, which too is also illegal......

no one is trying to tie up mayweather, they're trying to smother him and get shots off, anytime mayweather can he uses the elbow and forearm on the inside, usually off of his "bump and punch", which is one of the best in the business......

the way he uses his elbow is akin to how you use it in self defense again, certain grabs and holds, it really works for street defense, it's not legal in boxing........

BUT DONT WORRY!!! JOE CORTEZ WILL LET FLOYD USE HIS ELBOWS AND FOREARMS ALL FIGHT LONG.......... MAYWEATHER WILL BE SAFE IN THAT REGARD......

That's what all trainers say about Mayweather though.
